Let’s check in with the high school season. We are at a pause in the club season, kids just want to play, and why not take a look in the crystal ball maybe five to six months from now when the high school season is in full swing. Here is part one of a peek at the high school season. There have been different names popping up, new players, and patterns taking off with teams who will be coming in strong for the 2020 high school season. Here is a quick check in on teams who are building to make a big run in 2020.

Sussex Hamilton

Hamilton had an injury bug last year, but that didn’t take away their overall ability to win matches and compete against the top teams in the state. They will have a strong Senior class with the likes of Illinois State commit [player_tooltip player_id="12996" first="Katelyn" last="Lefler"], Winona State commit [player_tooltip player_id="56448" first="Janelle" last="Stuempfig"], [player_tooltip player_id="80730" first="Kayla" last="Lewinski"], and [player_tooltip player_id="33734" first="Lakyn" last="Graves"]. Another athlete that has stood out this club season is outside hitter, [player_tooltip player_id="82916" first="Sylvie" last="Zgonc"] who will add plenty of depth on the pin who can score points.

Kettle Moraine Lutheran

KML was a state runner-up in 2019 and always has a really difficult schedule throughout the high school season. All State outside hitter, [player_tooltip player_id="21871" first="Elle" last="Truckenbrod"] will be a major go-to athlete for the Chargers, but she will have a really strong supporting class who was young last year, but will be coming back strong in 2020. [player_tooltip player_id="81333" first="Stella" last="Zarling"] has been a big time outside hitter for Wisconsin Premier this past club season, [player_tooltip player_id="81311" first="Alyssa" last="Gaeth"] out of the middle or rightside, and 2023 middle [player_tooltip player_id="82287" first="Emily" last="Honzelka"].

Catholic Memorial

[caption id="attachment_86217" align="alignright" width="368"] CMH[/caption]

This was a scary team last year where they were “effectively wild”. Plenty of athletes where if they put it together, they could compete with some of the best. This upcoming season they will be led by Baylor commit [player_tooltip player_id="80715" first="Kaitlyn" last="Riley"] will control the net out of the middle where she can score points and is a big block with her hops and ability to get across the net. CMH will also welcome setter [player_tooltip player_id="81267" first="Lily" last="Lutz"] into the lineup, a Class of 2022 setter. They will also return [player_tooltip player_id="61787" first="Emily" last="Clausen"] who was one of the top Freshmen in the state in 2019.

Pewaukee

Senior dominated lineup and plenty of athleticism, experience, and depth where the Pirates will be looking to make a deep run. [player_tooltip player_id="33732" first="Jordan" last="Berglin"] gets better each time she steps on the court and is having a big off season playing outside hitter for Sting 17 Gold, scoring points against big blocks. [player_tooltip player_id="33760" first="Elsa" last="Shepherd"] is alongside her for Sting being a key contributor out of the middle. Other athletes would include libero, [player_tooltip player_id="80724" first="Abby" last="Gardner"] and setter [player_tooltip player_id="80765" first="Hailey" last="Boelter-Eberhardt"] who have plenty of experience in big game situations.

Edgewood

[caption id="attachment_86218" align="alignright" width="387"] Appleton North[/caption]

Edgewood has a lot of talent, but this past season was extremely young with plenty of Freshmen and Sophomores in the lineup. They will return some top athletes in Marquette commit, [player_tooltip player_id="12970" first="Ella" last="Foti"] who can set and swing from the right side as well as [player_tooltip player_id="81254" first="Natalie" last="Ring"] who is up there as far as top Class of 2022 outsiders with a big arm. The combination in the middle of Addie Schmotzer and [player_tooltip player_id="81264" first="Ally" last="Barth"] are going to be so tough to stop. They can do it all from defending to attacking which will really open up their offense.

Appleton North

Yes, Appleton North was a state tournament team last year, but they are having a big offseason where plenty of offensive weapons are developing. Bri Cantrell, who earned FVA Player of the Year honors and 1st Team All State honors as a Sophomore is playing up on the FC Elite-18 Elite team who won the JVA Showcase and has been competing in 18 Open level competition all season. Another big addition the Lightning will welcome is soon to be freshmen and one of the top Class of 2024 athletes in Ella Demetrician. The 6’0 outside hitter is already a standout playing one grade level up for the FC Elite 15 Navy squad.
