2021 Rankings: Terrific Uncommitted Talent from 20-29

The following group of uncommitted 2021 prospects is a collection of terrific offensive talent. With four athletes that have length, athleticism, and can point score in bunches, along with a setter competing for one of the best 17s teams in the nation, there is a lot of potential for the next level among this list.

[player_tooltip player_id="71955" first="Ella" last="Thompson"] - 6’1 | MH | HS: Lakeville North | Club: Northern Lights | Prep Dig #21
Thompson is one of the most aggressive middles in this class. She has continued to grow her production and value offensively with a blue collar work ethic, especially in transition, to make herself an available option. She jumps well with a registered 9’10 touch and can score through a quick tempo in front of the setter and through one of the more efficient slide approaches in this class. She has good hang time and can generate good pace and range with quick arm action at the end of her approach work. She is a key piece for Lakeville North as they return the bulk of their offense and ball control from 2019 that saw them reach the class 3A state tournament. As she led her team in blocking a season ago and with her increased offensive production, Thompson should factor even more in their effort this next fall.

[player_tooltip player_id="86632" first="Ally" last="Johnson"] - 6’2 | OH/RS | HS: Rogers | Club: MN Select | Prep Dig: #23
Johnson is a Mississippi 8 all-conference selection and will return to Rogers as their primary attacker on the pins. At 6’2 she has great length that benefits her well both attacking and blocking. With a recorded 9’10 approach touch she can get above the net. When her momentum and timing are in sync she is very dangerous at the end of her approach work. As she has good arm control in any situation, she looks most comfortable and effective through in-system mid-tempo options on the left pin. Through a more moderate tempo on the right she can get up and take a healthy swing for points as well. Johnson has terrific upside and with some attention to details she will continue to solidify herself among the top attackers in this class in Minnesota.

[player_tooltip player_id="58022" first="Ryley" last="Frye"] - 5’10 | S | HS: Armstrong | Club: Northern Lights | Prep Dig #24
Frye was gaining some great experience and exposure this club season as part of the setting tandem for one of the nation’s best 17s team. That alone should benefit her stock as a prospect. Her skills certainly match the needs for a team competing at that level as she has good footwork to pursue the ball around the court. She prepares her hands well and has good touch, extension, and location. With the attacking corps that this club team features, the setter needs to be able to distribute all locations confidently and consistently, while also finding the right balance and opportunity among all the heavy arms. Frye has shown capable of doing that with a steady presence for her team.

[player_tooltip player_id="72060" first="Emma" last="VanHeel"] - 6’0 | MH | HS: STMA | Club: Synergy | Prep Dig #26
VanHeel has been one of those athletes that seemingly gets better every time you watch her play. She complemented STMA’s pin attackers last year very well from the middle on both sides of the ball. Her lift off the floor is quick and she elevates well with great ability to impact the play aggressively above the net. She has increased her effectiveness offensively as she can score from a variety of attack points around the setter. She also has good vision and arm control to swing through a variety of zones. As a blocker she penetrates the net very well and the quickness she uses makes it challenging for attackers to beat her. Along with VanHeel, STMA returns some other strong arms and athletic personnel that should have them competing very well this next fall.

[player_tooltip player_id="58040" first="Aryana" last="Forsberg"] - 6’0 | MH/RS | HS: Shakopee | Club: Northern Lights | Prep Dig #28
Forsberg can do a lot for her team. She is athletic and and has tremendous quickness that she can apply to all of her movement and skills. She has good blocking skills that are highlighted by her ability to get on attackers quickly. She is fast off the floor and has good hang time. Offensively, she can score from all locations across the net. However, she looks more natural and comfortable in the middle and at opposite. She finds the ball well in transition and creates good momentum and spacing. As Shakopee is in the mix every year, Forsberg will be a critical element to their success this next fall.
