Carly Sobieralski Carly Sobieralski 5'10" | S Franklin Central | 2021 State IN , 5-10, S, Academy 17 Elite Riptide (17-2), Franklin Central High School
Rarely does a setter this solid come from the south side of Indianapolis. Most of the state’s best setters are either in Hamilton County just north of Indy, in Muncie, or in the extreme south of Indiana, close to the Kentucky border. It helps that Carly has an older sister who is currently setting on Lewis University’s roster (NCAA II) and that her parents are both volley dorks themselves from Ball State. Setting literally runs in her family, and Carly is no exception. Her hands are quick and accurate, she can work in tempo, and her volleyball acumen is high enough to know who should get the ball and when. Unlike a lot of setters here in Indiana, she also plays great defense and blocks quite well. For me, this is a can’t-miss opportunity for someone who needs a 5-1 setter in 2021.
Claire Morris Claire Morris 5'10" | S Perry Meridian | 2021 State IN , 5-10, S, Circle City 18 Black (18-2), Perry Meridian High School
Attacking in the front row and setting in the back row, this junior is the only player playing up a year on this list. The fact that she can do both in a modified 6-2 situation makes her versatile for a school that needs such a tool box. Coming from a long line of successful players at PM (recent grads are now at Stanford and Eastern Michigan), Claire knows her volleyball, and should be a nice pickup come ’21.
Cami Kelsay, 5-10, OH, Circle City 17 Purple (17-1), Franklin Community High School
At one point this season, Cami had to play both pins, middle and three-rotation DS in multiple tournaments. Doing everything but setting seems to be in Miss Kelsay’s nature, and she doesn’t complain a bit. It also helps that her attack touch is currently at 9-9, and it’s a sneaky-quick twitch that should have her flirting with ten feet pretty soon. A versatile player with a positive attitude? Yes, please.
Mayah Schundelmier Mayah Schundelmier 5'9" | MB Greenwood Christian Academy | 2021 State IN , 5-9, MB, Circle City 17 Black (17-2), Greenwood Christian Academy
Yes, you read that right. A 5-9 middle. She can JUMP. At one of the smallest high schools in the state, Mayah needs to be in the middle to dominate all players coming at her at the 1A level. At the next level, Mayah might be pushed to the right pin, just for her athleticism and “get-up” ability, but for now, we like watching her be fast against bigger competition.
Rylie McMahen, 5-7, DS, Circle City 17 Black (17-2), Center Grove High School
Rylie is coming from a long line of successful Division I players at CG, including recent grads going to Wisconsin and Indiana State. To fill those shoes, she’s the libero on a very successful club program, trained by Chris Due in high school and Jenna Tadros in club. Her serve receive is hyper consistent, and her defense is exceptional at this level.
