It’s DRAFT WEEK: Follow These Rules, Here Are My Draft Picks For the Wisconsin Class of 2021

With the NFL Draft coming up, why not have a little fun with the draft in the Prep Dig world. I am going to be drafting a team under certain rules where I’m not necessarily picking from the top ten athletes, but athletes from different parts of the state along with a variety of high school and club teams. Who are some of your top picks?

-Cannot have more than two players from the same club team

-Cannot have more than two players from the same high school

-Cannot have more than two players who are committed to Division 1 schools

-Must have someone from all four divisions of high school

Disclaimer - I thought WAY too hard about this as if I was picking a team to compete next week. I even factored in how certain players would potentially blend together and what the matchups would be against players that I didn’t pick. Welcome to my world....let’s get back on the court!

From the Wisconsin Class of 2021

[player_tooltip player_id="21869" first="Brooke" last="Mosher"] - Waterloo (D3) - FC Elite 18 Elite

Setter - Committed to Illinois (NCAA D1)

Mosher is the top overall player in the Class of 2021 and this past year, has really shown off her all around game. She is a top prospect as a setter, but put her on the pin and she is a point scoring machine. She is cool, calm, collected with plenty of intangibles that favor her side of the net in so many ways. Versatility is so key and being able to contribute in multiple ways makes is so key.

[player_tooltip player_id="12969" first="Hattie" last="Bray"] - Wautoma (D2) - FC Elite 18 Elite

Middle Blocker - Committed to Marquette (NCAA D1)

Bray has gone from a big blocking threat to someone who can score off of multiple tempos and can be extremely terminal off one foot. She has been working with Mosher the past two club seasons and having chemistry between the setter and middle is so important. She is also so fast along the net laterally. I like the uptempo style she can play and again, has plenty of intangibles that are in her favor.

Bullis to Berglin connection is 🔥 🔥🔥 for @stingvb1988 17 Gold pic.x.com/rTjMndkOwp
— Chris Fitzgerald (@PrepDigChris) January 31, 2020

[player_tooltip player_id="33732" first="Jordan" last="Berglin"] - Pewaukee (D1) - Sting 17 Gold

Outside Hitter - Committed to Flagler (NCAA D2)

Berglin’s stock has continued to rise in the past year as she continues to fly on the pin and is extremely violent in how she can put a ball away. A go to scorer for Sting 17 Gold, she was key in their early bid to USAV 17 Open Nationals. Berglin was also on the Pewaukee state qualifying basketball team. She brings a grit and determination that adds an edge to a team.
[caption id="attachment_89890" align="alignright" width="406"] [player_tooltip player_id="80717" first="Payton" last="Addink"] at the state tournament.[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="80717" first="Payton" last="Addink"] - Sun Prairie (D1) - Capital 17 Adidas

Outside Hitter - Committed to Minnesota Duluth (NCAA D2)

Addink is a six rotation outside where she can contact high, find the open spot on the court and has really developed a backcourt game. She is also a threat from the service line as well. The past two seasons she has played in big matches enroute to back to back appearances at the state tournament. She will be heading to D2 power Minnesota-Duluth.

[player_tooltip player_id="33760" first="Elsa" last="Shepherd"] - Pewaukee (D1) - Sting 17 Gold

Middle Blocker - Uncommitted

Shepherd has always been one that can rise to the occasion after having a big year for Pewaukee High School and then finding a spot on Sting 17 Gold with her high school teammate in Berglin. She can close the block, work in transition, and really be a force doing what her team needs her to do.

[player_tooltip player_id="80722" first="Natalie" last="Tesch"] - Wisconsin Lutheran (D2) - Sting 17 Black

Right Side/Setter - Uncommitted

Tesch has been so fun to watch evolve from her 15s year. I think I’ve seen her play every positions besides libero in her career which swinging out of the middle as a lefty. Her versatility brings a major upside to her game where she can score points in a variety of ways while also being a key defender as a block and right back defender.

[player_tooltip player_id="56454" first="Mackenzie" last="Holzwart"] - Howards Grove (D3)

Libero - Uncommitted

Holzwart is a gamechanger as a libero. She’s solid all around with how she can serve receive and take pace off the ball. She knows how to compete at a high level in any sport where she does in all for Howards Grove. A state champion libero and a top guard in the area she brings that knack of how to find a way to win.

[player_tooltip player_id="80730" first="Kayla" last="Lewinski"] - Sussex Hamilton (D1) - Motion Volleyball Program 17 Blue

Pin - Uncommitted

I really like the versatility, block, and spark that Lewinski brings to a team. She can play on the left side or right side causing a mismatch with her block. There is an energy from her that is contagious for the rest of her team. Definitely someone you want on your side of the net.

[player_tooltip player_id="80756" first="Maggie" last="Craker"] - McDonnell Central Catholic (D4) - Eau Claire Air 18

Setter/DS - Uncommitted

Craker is one of the top setters in D4 and has been a leader on the court since she started her career. Another all around multi-sport athlete, Craker brings a grit and physicality to the court where she could step in and set or would be one to hold down a DS position. The theme of this team is speed, overall athleticism, which should lead to being able to run a fast tempo offense.

[player_tooltip player_id="89556" first="Jaz" last="Lohman"] - De Pere (D1) - One Wisconsin 17 Mizuno

Middle Blocker - Uncommitted

I think there is a huge upside in [player_tooltip player_id="89556" first="Jaz" last="Lohman"] who comes from De Pere in the Green Bay area. She can jump and she has a ton of raw athleticism. She has been on the 1W squad this year and with continued training she could be a late steal at the next level.
