I found some tournaments that I hadn’t finished writing about while going through my camera tonight and thought I would share some of my memories from the River City President’s Day Classic. I watched the championship match between SWI 3rd Degree 16 White and the MVP United 16 White teams and it was quite a match. Some key players from both teams are listed below.
SWI 3rd Degree 16 White
Key Players:
Abby Stamp (2022, Tri-Center, DS/L)
Abby attends Tri-Center High School and was playing libero at this tournament. She is quick, can read the court, and will be gearing up to play a bigger role next fall for her school team. Abby had a .937 serve efficiency with 17 aces, 1.76 DPS, and 2 total blocks in her sophomore season. She played in 96 of 98 sets last fall and from what I saw of her during the club season she will be ready to stand out her junior season.
Eva Hanson of SWI 3rd Degree 16 WhiteEva Hansen (2023, Concordia, Omaha, OH)
Eva is an outside hitter from Concordia High School in Omaha, Nebraska. Her play at this tournament helped her team get key points and block some great attacks by their opponents. She has great focus when playing and is going to be ready for her junior season next fall after all of the time and effort she has dedicated to volleyball in the off-season.
Kylee Comer of SWI 3rd Degree 16 White.
Kylee Comer (2023, Concordia, Omaha, OH)
Kylee played in 43 sets for varsity her sophomore season and had 24 kills, 6 blocks, 13 digs and 1 ace. Look for a much bigger role from her next year when the high school volleyball season gets going.
Jazlynn Sanders of SWI 3rd Degree 16 White
Jazlynn Sanders (2022, Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson, Middle/Right)
Jazlynn has been playing volleyball at Thomas Jefferson High School. She played in 42 of 89 sets last fall but will be playing in a lot more this coming season. With the graduation of 8 seniors from her high school team and the transfer of their top hitter, it will be her time to shine.
[program_tooltip program_id='429192' first='MVP' last='United'] 16 White Coach Britney Thompson talks to her team after their win v SWI 3rd Degree 16 White for the championship.
MVP United 16 White
Key Players:
Sophia Veltri (#7, 2022, OABCIG, Setter)
Sophia only got to play in 5 of 91 sets last year for her high school team but will no doubt be making a much bigger impact in her junior season. Her high school lost eight seniors this year to graduation and Sophia will be ready to fill that gap by what I witnessed at this tournament in February.
Madeline Stout (#5, 2022, Middle)
Madeline is a good blocking middle who can hit hard too. She blocked plenty of shots by her team’s opponents to keep them from stealing a win at this tournament. She plays all the way around the front row and was good wherever she was playing. I look to see more of her next fall in regular season ball.
Emma Fredericksen (#3, 2022, OH)
Emma is a really good outside hitter with plenty of kills for her club team at this tournament. She has good defensive skills as well and popped up some key balls to prevent points being scored by the other team.
Leah Hayungs (#17, 2022, Middle)
Leah was instrumental in converting her blocks into kills on a second hit at the net. She just got better as the day went on and should be hard to beat next fall.
Addison Wierda of [program_tooltip program_id='429192' first='MVP' last='United'] 16 White.Addison Wierda (#10, 2022, DS/Libero)
Very fast, very smart, very hard to beat to the ground. She is fast and looks like she knows where the ball is going almost before the hitter does. She is definitely one to watch next fall.
Dacey Driesen of [program_tooltip program_id='429192' first='MVP' last='United'] 16 White.
Dacey Driesen (#9, 2022, OH)
I saved what I thought was the best for last. Dacey Driesen is a 6-rotation player who can kill it at the net as well as dig it from the floor. She is definitely one to watch next fall.
