Here are six 14th Region junior-to-be hitters to watch.
Joanna Centers: A sophomore middle hitter, Centers is a student-athlete from Powell County High School. Centers thrived throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season, finishing her latest prep campaign with 168 kills and 169 blocks. Observant and a solid blocker, Centers is aggressive at the net and uses both hands well. In addition to her solo efforts, Centers works well in tandem.
Felicity Dempsy: A sophomore outside hitter/right side, Dempsy is a student-athlete from Lee County High School. Dempsy was among the leaders for Lee County throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season, logging 153 kills and 32 digs. Versatile, Dempsy is able to hit with consistency from either side. Dempsy is agile and has shown the ability to communicate well with teammates.
Kaylee Elam Kaylee Elam OH Wolfe County | 2022 State KY : A sophomore middle hitter/outside hitter, Elam is a student-athlete from Wolfe County High School. Quick to hit and make digs, Elam appeared in 31 of 34 matches for Wolfe County during the 2019 high school volleyball season, registering 195 kills, 72 blocks, 54 digs and 85 service aces. Elam ranked second in service aces and third in blocks for her team in 2019. Another versatile player, Elam is comfortable playing in both the front and back row and reads opposing defenses well.
Abbey Howard: A sophomore outside hitter/middle hitter. Howard is a student-athlete from Leslie County High School. Helping to lead Leslie County to a 54th District title and an appearance in the 14th Region Volleyball Tournament Semifinals in 2019, Howard thrived from multiple positions. As an outside hitter, Howard passed and blocked well in addition to being a solid hitter.
Adreonna Schutz Adreonna Schutz OH Breathitt County | 2022 State KY : A sophomore outside hitter, Schutz is a student-athlete from Breathitt County High School. Schutz helped to lead Breathitt County to a 14th Region championship in 2019, recording 302 kills, 163 digs and 97 service aces. One of the top female high school student-athletes in Eastern Kentucky, Schutz led Breathitt County in kills. Schutz works well with middles and has established herself as a go-to hitter who also delivers precise passes.
Samantha Stidham: A sophomore middle hitter, Stidham is a student-athlete from Buckhorn High School. Stidham was one of the leaders for Buckhorn during the 2019 high school volleyball season, posting 199 kills, 270 digs and 87 service aces. A solid all-around middle who is athletic and communicative, Stidham possesses stellar blocking, attacking and serving skills.
