The Flint/Saginaw area put up some strong numbers in the last 12 months when it comes to volleyball.

We saw some from this location really push to challenge other areas of the state, while some young players established themselves as power players in their class.

Here’s a look at some of the top performers from that area over the last year, and who to keep an eye on over the next 12 months.

Emma Mcilhargie, OH Birch Run/Five:1 (2021)

Mcilhargie had a great year for Birch Run, one of the breakout teams in Division 2 in 2019. An outside hitter that has great passing skills in the back row, there wasn’t a place that she wasn’t positively impacting the Panthers. A solid run with Five:1 this club season also should help her confidence heading into her senior season. Only standing 5’7”, Mcilhargie plays well above her size.

[player_tooltip player_id="89345" first="Kennedy" last="Hogan"], MH Holly/Unified (2021)

Hogan was able to standout on a Holly team that had a lot of hitting options. She led the team in kills and hitting percentage, and also led the Bronchos in blocks. Hogan has a 6’2 frame that allows her to play well above the net, but her improving footwork and court vision have her becoming more than just a long reach.

[player_tooltip player_id="89373" first="Paige" last="Weeder"], OH Holly/Unified (2021)

Weeder was another top hitting option for Holly, which won a share of the Flint Metro League division title. Weeder has an improving swing to go along with a reliable all-around game. She has a competitive serve and can pass very well to keep her team in-system. Coming into her senior campaign, look for Weeder to really take a big step forward with her game.

[player_tooltip player_id="60832" first="Amanda" last="Glanton"], MH Davison/Michigan Elite (2022)

Glanton is a big middle, standing 6’3”. However, it’s her motor skills and fundamentals that are going to get her far. Already a dominant presence at the net for Davison, Glanton is really making big strides during the club season at Michigan Elite. She’s finding new elements to her game that is going to make her one of the best middles in the state going forward.

[player_tooltip player_id="24835" first="Kendyl" last="Andrews"], S Flushing/Michigan Elite (2022)

Andrews is a mobile setter that also has the skillset to move to the back row if needed. She was the quarterback of the Flushing attack this past fall and helped the Raiders to a co-Flint Metro League division title and district championship. Andrews is also a big part of Michigan Elite at the 16U level and should be a shining star in the Class of 2022 for the next two years.

[player_tooltip player_id="91611" first="Madison" last="Gebhardt"], OH Powers Catholic/Five:1 (2022)

Powers Catholic was a team that showed it could beat some quality programs in the state last season and Gebhardt was a big reason why. The over 6-foot outside hitter is a skilled six-rotation player that plays with a lot of competitive fire. A multi-sport talent, Gebhardt has great footwork and body control on the court and has been a standout for Five:1 during the 2020 club season.

[player_tooltip player_id="66316" first="Remi" last="Madison"], OH Grand Blanc/Michigan Elite (2023)

Madison has a lot of natural talents as a young player and she was able to showcase them during the prep season with Grand Blanc. She plays with a lot of confidence and poise as a freshman, and her fundamental work continues to improve with Michigan Elite. Madison is a name to keep an eye on in the state of Michigan.

[player_tooltip player_id="66311" first="Delaney" last="Jenkinson"], L/DS Holly (2023)

Jenkinson got thrown into the fire right away for the Bronchos and played very well for a conference championship winner. She took on a majority of serves and led Holly in digs during the 2019 season. That experience as a freshman should pay off in a big way for years to come for Holly. They are set at libero for a while.

Honorable Mention: Peyton Bartnikowski, OH Valley Lutheran/Michigan Elite (2021); Catherine Buko, S Nouvel CC (2021); Sydney Krause, S Valley Lutheran (2021); [player_tooltip player_id="60836" first="Marissa" last="Walker"], MH Holly/Michigan Elite (2022); [player_tooltip player_id="60852" first="Kendal" last="Inman"], OH/MH Grand Blanc/Michigan Elite (2022); [player_tooltip player_id="92068" first="Alyssa" last="Leroy"], L/DS Flushing/Arsenal (2022).
