Here are five 15th Region liberos to watch.
Abby Akers: A senior-to-be, Akers is a libero from Lawrence County High School. Akers was a key contributor for Lawrence County throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season, posting 223 digs and 31 service aces in 30 matches. Underrated, Akers has shown the ability to turn first touches into solid passes to setters effectively.
Emily Gearheart: A senior-to-be, Gearheart is a libero/defensive specialist from Pikeville High School. Gearheart registered 361 digs, 79 service aces and 68 assists in her first 35 matches for perennial 15th Region title contender Pikeville during the 2019 high school volleyball season. An intelligent player, Gearheart has shown the ability to set the ball from the back row consistently.
Jenna Grayson: A senior-to-be, Grayson is a libero/defensive specialist from Martin County High School. Grayson was a leader for Martin County throughout the 2019 prep volleyball season, recording 469 digs and 84 assists in 35 matches. A vocal leader, Grayson has developed into one of the talent-heavy 15th Region’s frontrunners in digs.
Alissa Mullins: A senior-to-be, Mullins is a libero/defensive specialist from Paintsville High School. Among the key players for Paintsville in 2019, Mullins posted 265 digs in 31 matches. Mullins, who was instrumental as Paintsville remained on top in the 57th District and reached the 15th Region Volleyball Tournament Semifinals last season, digs and pursues regularly while contributing from the back row.
Kiara Warrens: A senior-to-be, Warrens is a libero/defensive specialist from Floyd Central High School. Warrens helped to lead Floyd Central to the 2019 15th Region championship, posting 402 digs in 38 matches. Floyd Central captured the 15th Region title in only its third season. Region title winner Floyd Central’s team leader in digs and highly athletic, Warrens possesses solid passing and defensive skills.
