Here are five underrated 15th Region middles.
Hannah Akers: A sophomore middle hitter, Akers is a student-athlete from Pikeville High School. As a sophomore in 2019, Akers recorded 115 kills, 34 blocks and 28 digs in 35 matches for perennial 15th Region title contender Pikeville. Strong at the net, Akers possesses a high level of athleticism and is communicative.
Hanna Blackburn: A junior middle hitter/outside hitter, Blackburn is a student-athlete from East Ridge High School. Blackburn was productive for East Ridge throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season, tallying 179 kills and 42 blocks. Agile, Blackburn hits well from the left side and produces as a blocker.
LaRanda Francis: A sophomore middle blocker/middle hitter, Francis is a student-athlete from Phelps High School. A leader for Phelps during the 2019 prep volleyball season, Francis logged 164 kills, 49 blocks and 44 service aces n 27 matches. One of the most underrated high school volleyball players in Eastern Kentucky, Francis uses quick attacks on offense routinely and reads opposing hitters accurately.
Caley Howard: A sophomore middle hitter, Howard is a student-athlete from Floyd Central High School. Howard excelled as a sophomore in 2019, registering 190 kills, 82 blocks and 21 digs in 38 matches. Helping to lead Floyd Central to the 2019 15th Region title, Howard was a key player. Howard, who had an opportunity to compete in the 2019 KHSAA State Volleyball Tournament, blocks shots regularly and uses both hands effectively.
Lakyn Porter: A junior middle hitter/middle blocker/outside hitter, Porter is a student-athlete from Martin County High School. Porter was a key contributor for Martin County throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season, posting 153 kills, 33 blocks, 83 digs and 89 service aces. Versatile, Porter executes plays smoothly and is a leader on the floor.
