Round 2 of the 2020 Nebraska Prep Dig Team Series continues in the Hames Regional. Round 1 offered a 2019 summary, a 2020 outlook, and player information. THE.CENTENNIAL.CONFERENCE. – wow!!
Coach Zavala states it best, “This conference is so tough – winning a conference title is a mini-state tournament!”
And that is so true! The main difference between the Centennial Conference and the state tournament is the lack of class division. Teams in the Centennial Conference range from C1 to D1 and many of the teams switch up their class on a regular basis.
With the 2019 C2 State Champion Grand Island Central Catholic and the 2019 C1 State Champion Lincoln Lutheran teetering between C1 and C2 for the 2020 season along with perennial powerhouses Wahoo Neumann and Hastings St. Cecilia, their eventual classification can and will change up the look of the State Tournament. All of these teams have NSAA Enrollment from 59-60; right where the bubble will burst between C1 and C2.
For instance, if all four of these teams end up in Class C1, that puts them with St. Paul, Wahoo, Wayne, Norfolk Catholic, and Syracuse along with other conference foes in Columbus Scotus, Omaha Concordia, Kearney Catholic, and Lincoln Christian.
If they end up in C2, that includes Cross County, Elm Creek, Superior, Nebraska City Lourdes, Norfolk Catholic, and perhaps Overton.
As the Class of 2022 is waiting for the recruitment deadline of June 15 to talk recruitment, many of these teams are waiting until July for official classifications from the NSAA.
Look for returning players in the Centennial Conference in the Lincoln Lutheran article on Saturday, May 30.
