There are 64 regions in the state of Indiana, and, working from southern to northern Indiana, east to west, we break down each sectional by top returners. Here we go!
Section 64: Springs Valley
From the looks of things, this pocket of Indiana close to French Lick has one team that owns this sectional annually. Even though Springs Valley graduates five, we like the returning setter, Aerie Acuff (5-8, ’21, 9 assists per set) to run things for a new batch of attackers. Also returning for the Blackhawks is DS Keira Warren (5-7, ’21, 2.4 digs per set).
Section 63: Loogootee (pronounced Luh-GO-tee)
Another southern sectional that is rarely contested, Loogootee has a solid athletics department during all seasons for girls. Volleyball is no exception to this rule, and I have yet to see a season where they rack up less than 20 wins (26-6 in 2019). Their stud comes in the form of Kylie VanHoy (Evansville United Volleyball Academy 16 Black, 5-10, ’22, RS/S), who averaged almost four kills per set last season.
Section 62: Trinity Lutheran
Speaking of successful volleyball programs and uncontested sectionals, the Cougars are always this section’s winner, as the 2019 season brought them all the way to the state final. There are so many great players up and down this roster, but the biggest returnee for TL is their libero, Kamzi Gross Kamzi Gross 5'6" | DS/L Trinity Lutheran | 2022 State IN (Cougar VBC, ’22, 5-7), where her nearly 5 digs per set carried the defensive load for the Cougars most of the season. Her 39 digs against Loogootee in a five-set thriller in early October was a career high, and she’s only a junior next fall.
Section 61: Rock Creek Academy
At 25-8 last fall, the Lions were the pride of this section (sorry, the dad joke HAD to happen). Yet, of the four teams listed here, Rock Creek graduates only one, their setter. A trio of juniors runs the attack, led by Ligia Williams (Union 17 Asics, ’21, 6-3, MB). The offers are piling up, with NC State, Cincy, Louisville and Virginia Tech among the most aggressive. Stay tuned.
