The opportunity to play volleyball is one that has not been taken for granted by athletes in Wisconsin. With their club season shutdown, some high school seasons being moved to spring, and with gyms in question, masks to be worn, any chance to play volleyball is one to be grateful for. There are plenty of athletes that I have been able to see play live that have impressed and are having themselves quite the summer.

The Ocon Freshmen

Oconomowoc just reloads. After graduating four Division 1 players from last year’s team they have just been able to reload. Lilly Wagner is a promising Class of 2024 setter who plays with a smile and spark where she gets better everytime we takes the court. Same with middle Anna Bjork who has the size and physicality and will be a top Class of 2024 prospect that could make an instant impact. The great programs always find a way to reload.

[player_tooltip player_id="82910" first="Kyleigh" last="Coghlan"] - Kettle Moraine

The incoming Sophomore and Class of 2023 libero is looking rock solid, especially in serve receive. The highlight below is a sequence of Coghlan to Junior Rebecca Siedenberg and Senior pin [player_tooltip player_id="56502" first="Robi" last="Binagi"] who is so electric on the outside. KM will continue to be a force to be reckoned with after a strong season in 2019 which landed them in the state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="57260" first="Mary" last="Satori"] - Manitowoc Lincoln (Title Photo)

Satori is from the Class of 2022 and after playing a little bit of middle and outside, she has been owning the outside. She can just flat out score. She is on the pin and hitting sharp angles, tipping to the deep corner, tooling the block, and much more to get the ball on the floor. She has really elevated her game and has been impressive to watch her improvement the past year going from her Sophomore to Junior year.

Hamilton Senior Class

The Senior class for Hamilton has playing together for years. Many of them were key players as Sophomores and now they are running the show. For most teams, they are hoping to get one setter, but Hamilton has three in [player_tooltip player_id="12996" first="Katelyn" last="Lefler"] (Illinois State), [player_tooltip player_id="56448" first="Janelle" last="Stuempfig"] (Winona State), and [player_tooltip player_id="57287" first="Tatum" last="Baldwin"]. Their size, athleticism, and all around game as a team is most impressive and they have made their case for being the team to beat heading into the season.

Pewaukee Senior Class

Whenever Hamilton and Pewaukee get together it is definitely a battle of familiarity because many of these athletes have played club together or against each other their whole volleyball careers. Between the two programs, there are probably 15-20 Seniors. For Pewaukee, they’ve brought their program to a new level. With lofty expectations heading into the season, it will be fun to see how far the Pirates can go.

[player_tooltip player_id="12970" first="Ella" last="Foti"] to [player_tooltip player_id="81264" first="Ally" last="Barth"] - Edgewood

[player_tooltip player_id="12970" first="Ella" last="Foti"] is looking so strong and jumping extremely high. When she jump sets, it just looks different. The future Marquette Golden Eagle can set or swing, showing she can do it all. She’s connected well with middles [player_tooltip player_id="91887" first="Addison" last="Schmotzer"] and Class of 2022 middle, [player_tooltip player_id="81264" first="Ally" last="Barth"]. Barth is hitting harder and jumping higher than when I last saw her in the club season. Just a dynamic athlete with a huge upside where she can really score off one foot and has the agility to get from pin to pin to close the block.

Luxemburg-Casco, Notre Dame Academy, and FVL

These three teams have been battling all summer. They have been competing in the One Wisconsin Summer League in Green Bay which L-C took home the title, but Notre Dame is showing plenty of promise with an athletic squad. FVL finished second at the WLC team camp with a big win over Wisco. They have a deep roster of talent blended through all ages. FVL and Luxemburg-Casco are in the Northeastern Conference and it will be quite the battle mixed in with the likes of Freedom and Little Chute as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="81321" first="Grace" last="Schneider"] - Wisconsin Lutheran

Schneider is from the Class of 2022 and is really coming into her own playing for Wisconsin Lutheran. Last year she was the L2 behind SIUE commit and All State pin [player_tooltip player_id="56013" first="Julia" last="Treichel"] and so far this summer Schneider has really taken ownership of being the go to point scorer. She can swing and score from the outside or from the backrow.

[player_tooltip player_id="80758" first="Lauren" last="Sitter"] - Germantown

[caption id="attachment_103556" align="alignright" width="201"] Hamilton[/caption]

[player_tooltip player_id="81278" first="Maddie" last="Connor"] - Germantown

I’ve seen Germantown and plenty of their athletes play on the high school and club ranks, but Sitter and Connor are looking like they could have a breakout year. Sitter is looking really strong and athletic as a middle blocker and will be a great combo with electric pins in [player_tooltip player_id="80721" first="Tatum" last="Catalano"] and [player_tooltip player_id="61819" first="Lily" last="Wagner"]. Connor will have the chance to run the show as a setter and uses her quickness to get her hands to the ball. Once again the GMAC is going to be loaded this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id="57247" first="Riley" last="Hamilton"] - Hartford

Hartford Union is such a fun team to watch, they bring energy, intensity, and a lot of athleticism at every position. Their match with Edgewood last night at Summer League was back and forth the whole way. [player_tooltip player_id="57247" first="Riley" last="Hamilton"] has been making an impact since her Freshman year, but now being a Junior she will be a six rotation go to where she will lead on the court scoring points and keeping her side of the net in system. She can jump and make great contact going line, cross, or roll to score points.
