Today we discuss another great team in the State of Texas. With so much uncertainty of how the school year will go in regards to the global pandemic we are facing, it is nice to have a somewhat sense of normalcy for us volleyball fans. Volleyball is Back! We are looking forward to seeing everyone back in action on the court. We will be highlighting a few teams that have a chance to do something very special this year if it all works out. Today we bring our attention to a team that needs no introduction, Denton Guyer Wildcats.

They are the number 4 ranked team in the nation currently and they are coming off of a birth in the regional finals last year. They had one of the most successful campaigns in school history last season going 35-9, which was tied for the most wins in program history. They have a target on their backs but they have a great chance to run it back in the 6A class with the team they bring back to the court this year. We have written about some of these players before and here is a little from our recent articles about them if you need to remember who they are:

[player_tooltip player_id="87388" first="Brooke" last="Slusser"] [2021] 6-0 Setter (HS: Guyver/Club: Texas Advantage/Verbal: Alabama)

Brooke is the number one ranked prospect in the 2021 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She needs no introduction as she has been one everyone’s radar since she was a young player. Here is a little about what we wrote about her earlier in the spring, “This Left-Handed two time USAV Open Division National Champion floor general has a wicked float serve that often“jelly-legs” opposing serve-recievers. Her success can be mainly attributed to her ability to run such a fast tempo offense from different areas on the court. She has an uncanny ability to locate her set perfectly even though the ball may be slightly out of system. Her ability to go “against the flow” of the pass and still deliver keeps her opponents off balance and gives her hitters so many one on one opportunities to score. This young lady has been one of the best in the entire country to run an offense. She will do great things at the next level.” Brooke does a little bit of everything for her Guyer program. She can literally do it all on the court as she sets, hits, and blocks. I have no doubt that she will be the MVP of the district and then some during her senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id="87422" first="Jordyn" last="Williams"] [2021] 6-2 Middle (HS: Guyer/Club: Texas Advantage/ Verbal: Kentucky)

Jordyn is the 34th ranked prospect in the 2021 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We wrote an article on Miss Williams earlier in the spring in one of our Everything’s Bigger in Texas pieces, “After helping lead her TAV club to a second place finish in her sophomore year at USA volleyball Junior Nationals Open division, she had a stellar junior season with her State ranked Denton Guyer School. She has a verbal commitment to SEC Champion Kentucky, which she will attend in a few years. She is a dominant force at the net for both her school and club teams. She runs a mean slide behind her setter and scores at will with it. Her power is feared by her opponents as she swings on every attack with so much force. I like the way she uses her footwork to make sure that she is utilizing momentum behind every swing. Kentucky is getting a good one to stay atop the SEC for the next few years.” Jordyn is the real deal as she is one of the best middles in the state. Her and Brooke together pose a very difficult matchup for any team. They are easily one of the best setter-middle tandems in the state of Texas. She has a chance to do some amazing things during her senior season this year and we will gladly sit back and watch what will be a dominant performance.

[player_tooltip player_id="87465" first="Ella" last="Bridges"] [2021] 5-9 Libero (HS: Guyer/Club: Drive Nation/Verbal: Texas Women’s University)

Ella is ranked as the 87th top prospect in the State of Texas according to our State Rankings. She is a solid libero/defensive specialist who brings a ton of experience to the back row for Guyer. She has been a solid contributor for the program over the last three years and looks to be a leader for the young talent that is coming through the program. She has great serve receive skills and a great platform to angle the ball to her setter. Ella mainly plays out of the left side of the back row but is capable of playing other positions as well in a pinch. She is committed to Texas Women’s University and will undoubtedly do great things for their program next season. We are looking forward to watching her leadership through her senior season.

[player_tooltip player_id="87511" first="Reagan" last="Nash"] [2022] 5-11 Middle/Right Side (HS: Guyer/Club: Instinct Volleyball Club/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Reagan comes in ranked as the 58th best prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is a very lengthy net contributor for the Guyer program. She is listed as five foot eleven in the program but her long arms allow her to play as a six footer does. It is with those long arms that she is able to stifle defenses and funnel attacks to her teammates to dig right up. She possesses a lot of fire power in those arms of hers as she swings extremely fast downward to create her arm speed. Her big hands allow her to snap on the ball really well and create extra top spin on the ball. If there are any over passes near her area, she takes care of them with ease. Reagan plays for a great club program in Instinct Volleyball Club who always produces top talent. Reagan will no doubt be a key contributor to the Guyer program going far in the state playoffs again this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="87525" first="London" last="Hunt"] [2022] 5-11 Middle (HS: Guyer/Club: Instinct Volleyball Club/Verbal: Uncommitted)

London comes in ranked as the 70th top prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is also a big net contributor for the Guyer program. She plays out of the middle and is a stopping force there against her opponents. Her quick footwork allows her to cover a lot of ground while patrolling the net. She will be a big reason why Guyer is able to be in any game this season because of her defensive abilities. Every great team needs strong middles to shut hitters down or at least slow them down. London is one of Guyer’s stoppers. I love how she presses and seals the net to solidify her block. She also plays at Instinct and they have taught her well. She brings great experience being on varsity last year and helping in their run they had in the playoffs. Be on the lookout for her stock to rise this season as she has a great setter to help her score at will.

[player_tooltip player_id="87534" first="Kyndal" last="Stowers"] [2023] 5-11 Middle (HS: Guyer/Club: Instinct Volleyball Club/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Kyndal comes in ranked as the 8th best prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. This young lady is the real deal. She plays out of the left and right side pins last season as a freshman on varsity for the Guyer program, but they may use her primarily on the left this year with the departure of [player_tooltip player_id="87510" first="Maggie" last="Walsh"]. Kyndal has all of the tools to be a fantastic outside hitter for the next three years. She will no doubt be a division 1 prospect. She plays for the famed TAV club program that routinely pumps out Div one prospects. This kid has the type of bounce that can’t be taught. She has length in her extremities which allow her to reach over blockers and hit with authority. What I love the most about her is her quickness off of the ground and her ability to move the ball around and score so easily. In my professional opinion, she is one of the best hitters in the state of Texas in the 2023 class and will grow to be even better with more experience under her belt. If you don’t know her name, write it down and get some popcorn because you are in for a treat watching her attack the ball.

The Leadership alone will carry this team to greatness. They have an offensive arsenal that most teams would only dream about having. They do play in arguably the toughest district in the state, but that will only help them stay tough as they are looking for a deep run in the playoffs. We will gladly sit back and watch the show and look forward to covering what could be another historic run for them.

Prep Dig TX Prediction: Denton Guyer is your State Champion for 2020.
