Gabby Gergen Gabby Gergen 5'8" | S Janesville | 2021 State IA (2021, Ranked #35, S, Janesville)
Gabby has 9.7 APS, 1.0 KPS, 27 total blocks, 2.3 DPS, and a team-high 32 aces with a serving efficiency of 95.9%. She is an all-around impact player that will be exciting to watch play against a couple of players at the bottom of this list from St. Albert on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. on Court 1.
Kalvyn Rosengarten Kalvyn Rosengarten 6'3" | MB Wapsie Valley | 2023 State IA (2023, Ranked #10, MH/RS, Wapsie Valley)
Kalvyn is a 6’3″ OH with 2.5 KPS with a .306 hitting efficiency, 62 total blocks, 45 of those solo blocks, .8 DPS, and 27 aces with a 94.3% serving efficiency. That appears pretty lethal from the other side of the court. Wapsie Valley faces Burlington-Notre Dame, who has a couple of names on this list also, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday on Court 2.
Saari Kuehl Saari Kuehl OH Gladbrook-Reinbeck | 2021 State IA (2021, Ranked #12, OH, Gladbrook-Reinbeck)
Saari is a 6′ OH with a team-high 4.4 KPS, 44 assists, 31 blocks, a team-high 4.1 DPS, a team-high 44 aces with a serving efficiency of 90.9%. That is a lot of team-highs for one player. That means she is a pretty fantastic player and should be amazing to see her face off against Springville on Tuesday at 8 p.m. on Court 1.
Aliyah Christenson Aliyah Christenson 5'7" | S New London | 2022 State IA (2022, Ranked #84, S, New London)
Aliyah is a 5’7″ setter with 6.2 APS, 3 blocks, 2.9 DPS, and a team-high 55 aces with a serving efficiency of 93.9%. As the main setter for her team, Aliyah is responsible for fueling her offense by setting almost every other player on the court but especially her middles. This is one player I have not seen before so I greatly look forward to watching her on Tuesday against Gehlen Catholic at 8 p.m. on Court 2.
Gabby Deery Gabby Deery 6'2" | MB Burlington Notre Dame | 2023 State IA (2023, Ranked #20, MH, Burlington-Notre Dame)
Gabby is a 6′ MH with 4.2 KPS with a hitting efficiency of .298, 76 total blocks with 24 solo blocks, 1.8 DPS, and 24 aces with 87.4% serving efficiency. In other words, whoever plays this team better be hitting more than just on the normal rotation to beat the block. Burlington-Notre Dame plays Wapsie Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Court 2.
Katie Stephens Katie Stephens 6'0" | MB Burlington Notre Dame | 2022 State IA (2022, Ranked #47, OH, Burlington-Notre Dame)
Katy has 3.8 KPS with a .257 hitting efficiency, 33 total blocks, 2.9 DPS, and a team-high 27 aces with a 90.5% serving efficiency. Burlington-Notre Dame has three hitters that have over 3.8 KPS…that could be really tough to beat no matter what ranking they are given coming into the state tournament.
Joslyn Bentz Joslyn Bentz 5'8" | OH Burlington Notre Dame | 2022 State IA (2022, Ranked #51, OH, Burlington-Notre Dame)
Josie has not played as many sets as her teammates but has 3.9 KPS with a .296 hitting efficiency, 12 total blocks, 3.0 DPS, and 11 aces with a 95.1% serving efficiency. I am not sure why but Josie has only played in a little under half her team’s sets so I am guessing they would be an even stronger contender with her playing all of their sets. I will guess an injury or illness has kept her sidelined and maybe it was early this season and she will be back for the state tournament. It will be much more interesting if that is the case.
Allie Petry Allie Petry 5'7" | DS/L Council Bluffs St. Albert | 2021 State IA (2021, Ranked #4, OH, St. Albert)
Allie is a monster. I mean that in the most awe-inspired way. She is a 5’7″ OH, but don’t let that lull you into thinking she is harmless. She can out jump every other kid I have seen play the sport and she hangs like forever. That allows her to just pick and choose where she will strike and more times than not, she finds gold, or in this case, an empty floor. Which some players appreciate since when she hits you, it hurts. Allie has a team-high 4.3 KPS, 24 assists, 27 total blocks, 3.0 DPS, a team-high 32 aces with a serving efficiency of 81.8%. St. Albert plays Janesville on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. on Court 1.
Elizabeth Elkins Elizabeth Elkins 5'9" | OH Council Bluffs St. Albert | 2021 State IA (2021, Ranked #53, OH/MH, St. Albert)
Elizabeth is a transfer since her junior year following the volleyball season and comes from a team that trained her playing against Class 5A teams like West Des Moines Valley. She has changed position this year and has been playing in the middle for St. Albert. She was a 6-rotation player and honestly, this team is so loaded with talented players that they can afford to move her to the middle for her stabilizing leadership in the front. Her stats this year are 1.1 KPS, 32 total blocks, 53 digs, and 20 aces with an 85.2% serving efficiency. St. Albert has lost one set since October 8th. They kick off the state tournament against Janesville on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. on Court 1.
