Here are a few athletes to keep tabs on that will be sure to make their presence known, looking to lead their teams to a deep postseason run.
Maggie Craker Maggie Craker 5'8" | S McDonell Central | 2021 State WI – McDonell Central
Craker can literally do it all, doesn’t matter the sport or position, but as the setter for her team she will be looking to make a deep postseason run. The Northern sections for D4 are always a tough draw that have been traditionally ruled by Newman Catholic and Clayton. The Macks have the athleticism and Craker who can dish, defend, and score points when needed. She has the intangibles to lead and find a way to win.
Dorci Walker Dorci Walker OH Columbus Catholic | 2022 State WI – Columbus Catholic
Walker is a super physical athlete at the net who can overpower her opponents. She is averaging five kills per set and has Columbus on a roll heading into the post season. This team has always ran into Newman Catholic in years past and will have to defeat others who they have faced all season. Walker is looking to take as many swings necessary to get her squad to a state tournament.
Olivia Burcaw Olivia Burcaw OH Prentice | 2021 State WI – Prentice
Prentice has dropped some tough matches to the likes of McDonell Central, Phillips, and a ranked Mosinee squad from D2. Olivia Burcaw Olivia Burcaw OH Prentice | 2021 State WI is the six rotation outside hitter who can really score points in a variety of ways for Prentice. From the backrow to swinging away on the pin, she can mix it up to keep the serve on her side of the net. Prentice could potentially face Columbus Catholic which would provide plenty of power between Burcaw and Walker.
Jaclyn Wise Jaclyn Wise 6'1" | OH NEW Lutheran | 2021 State WI and Greta Wise Greta Wise 5'9" | OH NEW Lutheran | 2023 State WI – Green Bay NEW Lutheran
The Wise sisters! Jaclyn is a Senior committed to Hillsdale in Michigan while Greta is a rising Sophomore. NEW Lutheran has played against some tough competition which includes Howards Grove and Oconto. They are fundamentally sound and are accustomed to tough competition. Another key athlete in this mix is Senior setter Josie Nelson who can really distribute and attack when needed.
Sammie Seib Sammie Seib 5'7" | OH Catholic Central | 2021 State WI – Catholic Central
The Hilltoppers are 16-0 and looking to get back to their third straight state appearance. Sammie Seib Sammie Seib 5'7" | OH Catholic Central | 2021 State WI is leading the way, but there are four athletes on this squad with over 100 kills in only 16 matches. They could have a potential match with GB NEW Lutheran who are in the same sectional, a repeat of last season.
Maddy Near – Howards Grove
The Tigers are the reigning D3 state champions with talent all across the board, but Senior Maddy Near has been key in their rise to the top over the past three seasons. A physical middle blocker, Near has always been solid and dependable for the Tigers and often the X-Factor in plenty of tight matches.
Michaela Riege Michaela Riege 5'7" | DS/L Waterloo | 2022 State WI – Waterloo
Riege has been one of the top leaders in digs among the state the past two years and is the first contact to a high powered Waterloo offense. The Pirates have Illinois commit, Brooke Mosher Brooke Mosher 5'11" | S Waterloo | 2021 State WI and Senior, Joslyn Wolff Joslyn Wolff 5'10" | OH Waterloo | 2021 State WI leading the way and will look to make a return trip to the state tournament. Riege will be key getting the offense in system and providing a solid presence in the backrow.
Cassandra Alsum Cassandra Alsum 5'9" | OH Randolph | 2022 State WI – Randolph
Randolph will be competing in D3 this season after traditionally being in D4. The Rockets have been lights out all season with the duo of Alsum and Sophomore, Carizma Muth. Alsum bring a fast arm and plenty of power from the pin where she can really hit the split on the block. She is also a threat to score from any rotation, attacking from the backrow as well.
Sydney Beasley Sydney Beasley 6'1" | RS Darlington | 2021 State WI – Darlington
Beasley is one of the top players out of Southwest Wisconsin, leading Darlington to a top seed in their group and chance to make a run to the state tournament. Beasley is a solid overall athlete who can attack and score points from anywhere in the front line. She is able to play on either pin and is also a big blocking presence. She has committed to Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa – one of the top NAIA programs in the country.
