S, [player_tooltip player_id="105484" first="Laurel" last="Jones"], 6’1”, (Ranked No. 4) – Jones played like a DI talent and that’s what she is. The Maize South senior has verbally committed to play at Marquette University, but before she does she would like to win a Class 5A State Title. Jones a tall player with quick hands and an eye for holes in opponents’ defensive set ups had two productive matches. She began the day with six digs and three kills against Goddard. She stepped up in the Sub State Final with seven kills and three blocks in a 25-17, 25-15 win over Maize

The senior libero finished with a total of 15 digs and 16 service receptions in the two matches. She will be a solid addition on the court and ball field for the Panthers.

MH, Avery Lowe, 6’1”,– Lowe is just a sophomore, but she will be a highly recruited member of the Class of 2023. Lowe is tall and can jump. Her best match in Sub State came in the final against the Eagles. She had seven kills and three blocks in the Quarterfinal Qualifying match.

OH, Gracie Morrow, 5’10”, – Morrow, a varsity starting freshman, came up big in the opening match of the day. In the 25-3, 25-15 victory over Goddard, she had seven kills, two digs, and two service receptions. The Mavericks will lose just two seniors after postseason play and the cupboard will be far from bare when the 2021 season rolls around. Morrow added three kills, six digs, and five service receptions against Maize.

Another underclassman to watch moving forward for Maize South is middle hitter CeCe Young. The six-footer has an athletic frame and is only going to improve for the Mavericks. She chipped in three kills and a block in the final match of the day.
