<p>Noelle VanOort started the 2020 season with a bang as she tallied 24 kills for Kasson-Mantorville despite a 3-1 loss to defending Class 2A state champion Stewartville Thursday.</p>
<p>VanOort also posted nine digs for the Komets.</p>
<p>The Hiawatha Valley League rivals clashed amid 137 other games around Minnesota as matches took place for the first time since MSHSL’s decision to move the sport back to the fall.</p>
<p><strong>Standouts from Opening Night</strong></p>

<p>Converse also had a big night for the Komets. The 5-10 junior setter totaled 45 set assists in the loss to Stewartville.</p>

<p>The 6-4 Willmar sophomore outside hitter posted 14 kills and a pair of block assists in the Cardinals’ 3-0 win over St. Cloud Apollo.</p>
<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="58062" first="Brenna" last="Stamm"]</strong></p>
<p>Andover’s 5-3 senior libero/defensive specialist shined with 25 digs in a 3-0 win over Blaine. She also posted three service aces.</p>
<p><strong>Presley Sommers</strong></p>
<p>Middle blocker Presley Sommers helped Andover around the net with six blocks in a 3-0 victory against Blaine. The 5-11 senior also had three kills and digs each.</p>

<p>Sheehan garnered 42 set assists in a 3-1 win for North Branch over Becker. The 5-9 senior setter also posted three kills and five digs.</p>
<p><strong>Lydia Kuhlman</strong></p>
<p>North Branch’s Lydia Kuhlman stymied Becker’s attack with 21 digs in a 3-1 win. She also had nine kills and a service ace.</p>
<p><strong>Gabby Jauhola</strong></p>
<p>Proctor’s Gabby Jauhola tallied 34 set assists and two service aces in the Rails’ 3-0 win at Moose Lake-Willow River. The junior setter also stepped on defense with 10 digs. </p>
<p><strong>Aubrey Garner</strong></p>
<p>Garner delivered 10 service aces for Proctor in its 3-0 win at Moose Lake-Willow River. The senior outside hitter also posted 10 kills and six digs.</p>

<p>Proctor 5-10 junior outside hitter [player_tooltip player_id="72820" first="Payton" last="Rodberg"] tallied nine service aces in the Rails’ win over Moose Lake-Willow River. She also stepped up on the attack with 14 kills and dominated on defense with 15 digs.</p>
<p><strong>Avery Hoeper</strong></p>
<p>Minnewaska Area’s Avery Hoeper shined around the net with six blocks in the Lakers’ 3-1 loss to Melrose. The senior middle hitter also tallied three kills and three set assists.</p>
