Wimberley vs Decatur for the State Championship. It doesn’t get any better than this. Two teams who have dominated on the court all year. Wimberley came in to the championship match with a 30-5 overall record. Decatur owned an astounding record of 31-1. After talking to a few coaches, most thought it was going to be a good match of two solid teams. I have been following the Decatur team all year long very closely and I knew there was something different about this team. What just happened this past weekend at State proved what a lot of people were thinking….This team is for real.

Wimberley played a great match and their two stars Brina Jones and Paige Crawford did their thing and tried to do what they could to stay competitive. However, The potent lineup of Decatur proved to be too much for the Lady Texans. Just as they have been doing all year long, Decatur swept the Lady Texans 25-13, 25-12, 25-19.

The following players received All Tournament honors from UIL at the State Tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="99533" first="Tayte" last="Helton"] - Senior - Decatur

Bayli Miller - Junior - Decatur

Kaylee Peterson - Junior - Decatur

Trinity Vinzant - Senior - Decatur

Paige Crawford - Junior – Wimberley

Championship Match Most Valuable Player

Jentry Lamirand - Junior – Decatur

Here is the scary part. They aren’t done yet. It is a little early to call it, but I think everything is pointing to a deep run this time next year with all of the young talent they have returning. There is another player who everyone will have to watch out for and her name is Jordyn Tynsky. We will be profiling her soon when the rankings update happens in a few weeks. She is a super solid freshman libero who plays like a senior. This young lady and this whole team isn’t afraid of anyone. We can’t wait to cover these kids during the club season. Let’s all congratulate the Decatur Eagles on their State Championship!!!!!!

We will be publishing more articles weekly to give recognition to those teams and athletes who are playing great in their matches. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes. If you have anyone that you think deserves to be recognized as a player of the week, feel free to send me a message with their information. Or if you have anyone that you think have what it takes to be added to our database, please shoot me an email with some info at nov8vb@yahoo.com. As always, thanks for following our publication.
