With the chaos that was 2020, we learned a lot of ingenuity, adaptability and flexibility. Several schools in the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association went forward with a Fall season despite the cancellation of the championship portion of the season. This is our celebration of these Fall All Star performance with the absence of All Region and All State teams in the 2020 season. The class of recipients has players ranging from 8th graders, all the way to seniors. We don’t have stats for everyone but we are going to recognize a lot of athletes. We are going to split it up by graduating class with Seniors, Juniors and underclassmen just because there are way too many for one article to do the players justice. Word from a VISAA official is that there will be a Spring season for many teams so our VISAA State Awards might happen during that season. Now, on with the awards. Our awards will also include some homeschool athletes as well as they are often under represented.

It would be a disservice to start off the list without our players who earned weekly or monthly awards this season and 2019 standouts who continued their outstanding play in 2020.

Here are out First Team Fall Star Athletes:

[player_tooltip player_id="111436" first="Grace" last="Bickley"], Portsmouth Christian’s Outside Hitter, is a reigning First Team All State player in 2019 and was a regular in consideration for PrepDig Awards in 2020. Grace finished second another our senior with a .435 hitting percentage and 170 kills. She was also the National AVCA Coaches Player of the Week during 2020 as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="111402" first="Paige" last="Bachman"], the dominant 6’2 Middle Blocker from Fredericksburg Christian, led our seniors with a whopping .557 hitting percentage

and was a reigning Second Team All State selection in 2019. The multisport standout will continue playing softball in college for Liberty University.

[player_tooltip player_id="111467" first="Megan" last="James"], Guardian Christian, Junior Outside Hitter (pictured left). Megan was one of the most dominant hitters of the Fall season. She averaged 6.5 kills per set, 6 digs per set and 1.5 aces per set. The 5’8 junior is playing club for Richmond Volleyball Club on their 17 National team. She was one of two members of the 200 kills/200 digs club in the Fall of 2020.

Emma Schaeffer, Fredericksburg Christian, setter. Emma concluded her final season leading the state in assists per set (9.1) and total assists (431). She finished with 2761 career assists.

Leann Caldwell, TEACH, Senior Outside Hitter. The 5’5 Senior Captain and Outside Hitter closed out a stellar high school career with her best season in Kills per set (5.9). She amassed 755 kills in her career with 460 digs and 277 aces.

<img class="alignleft" src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/rms-rmfiles-production/client_photos/athlete_11869332_profile.jpg" alt="[player_tooltip player_id="111416" first="Sarah" last="Heath"]’s Women’s Volleyball Recruiting Profile" width="162" height="216" />[player_tooltip player_id="111416" first="Sarah" last="Heath"] (pictured left), James River Home School, Senior Utility Hitter. Sarah finished her abbreviated Fall 2020 with another solid season. The 5’10 hitter was a top passer in the region and dominant attacker. She hit .431 on the season with 9.5 kills per match.

Victoria Tucker, Portsmouth Christian, Senior Hitter: Victoria finished with 139 kills on the season. She finished as the other part of attacking dynamic duo for Portsmouth Christian, paired with [player_tooltip player_id="111436" first="Grace" last="Bickley"].

[player_tooltip player_id="111506" first="Drew" last="Williams"], Stonebridge, Junior Outside Hitter. The Cavalier returning all state OH has another banner season with over 100 kills and 100 digs for the reigning state champs and hit .400 on the season which is an outstanding efficiency for a hitter who gets as many swings as Outside Hitters get.

Hope Parrish, Denbigh Baptist, Sophomore Outside Hitter.
