Continue ReadingWe are proud of our second update to the 2022 Class. We have just witnessed some amazing accomplishments throughout this unpredictable year we have just had. Texas was fortunate to have almost a full high school season and is now finishing up this week with the State Playoffs. The 2022 class had a lot to do with how well their varsity teams did in the state playoffs. It is through their play during this past season that has helped us decide who should be where on the rankings. We always say that it is not an exact science, however proving it on the court in their position always helps solidify the analysis. We will be profiling players who were previously ranked in the state, but through great play, they made some serious moves up the rankings. Without further ado, here are a few players who moved up:
Ava Camacho Ava Camacho 5'8" | DS/L Lovejoy | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-8 Libero (HS: Lovejoy/Club: Dallas Skyline/ Verbal: UT San Antonio)
Ava was originally ranked as the 31st best prospect in the state according to our State Rankings but we have moved up her up to the 28th top spot. She is a phenomenal talent in the back row. We have written about her in the past and here is a little from a previous article, “Having played with two of the best clubs in the state of Texas over the years, Ava has definitely been tested amongst the best in the Nation. And she has not disappointed one bit. This showcases her abilities as a very well rounded volleyball player. She always seems to find herself in the right place at the right time when watching her play. This can be directly correlated to all of her experience throughout her years of playing. Serve-receive is her strong suit and she should bring that to the table while at UTSA in the coming years. When you add her to the regular rotation alongside Miss Kemohah, they add up to one of the best back row tandems in the state. Ava is a great libero who has amazing range on the court. She is able to stop on a dime and change her direction quickly to respond to an emergency. She is able to handle hard driven attacks with ease and will bring that to the table for them as the road gets tough in the playoffs. We are looking forward to covering her over the next two years.” Her and her wonderful high school program just completed a back-to-back UIL 5A state championship run. She will look to take over the Libero role next season for the Lovejoy program. We are excited for her movement in the rankings and look forward to watching her perform during the club season.
Ava Roberts Ava Roberts 6'0" | RS Mansfield | 2022 State TX [2022] 6-0 Right Side/Middle (HS: Mansfield/Club: Texas Advantage/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Ava Roberts Ava Roberts 6'0" | RS Mansfield | 2022 State TX was originally ranked as the 36th top prospect in the wonderful State of Texas, but has since moved up two spots to the 34th position in our Rankings. In a previous article we wrote the following about Ava: “She plays for the world famous TAV club and shines for them on the right side/middle. She is versatile enough to hit quick sets and high tempo on the pins. She is gifted with a super strong frame that is built for the college game. She will transition very well to the workouts at the next level. She can jump extremely well and rises up with the best of them. What truly stands out is her power on her attack. Her upper body is so strong that the ball comes off of her hand contact so quickly. When she presses on the block, there is no hitter who can break that seal. This is a great weapon for a team to have. She has played against some of the best teams in the nation and she still shines. She sometimes steps inside and runs a slide in transition and also runs quicks from the right. The only changes I would like to what I previously wrote is this kid has only gotten better! She is only a Junior but she is a Stud for Mansfield High School. This young lady has power for days and plays with so much passion. I love to watch her celebrate a kill or a block with her teammates. It is so infectious. She is a blocking machine on the right side and middle. Once college coaches see how she can play at all three positions at the net, they will fall in love with that athleticism. She will be on my radar for the next few years and she should be on yours too! Please congratulate her on her movement up the rankings. Her and her TAV teammates are ready to compete for a national championship.
Gabriela Mansfield Gabriela Mansfield 5'4" | DS/L Klein | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-5 Defensive Specialist (HS: Klein/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Rice University)
Gaby made some serious movement on the rankings. She went from being the 77th top prospect to now the 40th top prospect and the 4th best libero in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In the previous article we wrote, “Gaby earned 1st Team All-District honors last season as well. According to her coach, she set last year’s single season dig record at Klein. She is a teammate of Miss McFall at Houston Skyline. She has also earned accolades from some other volleyball publications as well. I am impressed with the way she plays in the back row. She constantly has her feet moving and is very active. When the ball is contacted, I love how she has great body control to absorb contact from the attack. She is very active on hitter coverage as well and should be commended for that. Gaby recently committed to division one Rice University. She will do great things for Coach Volpe in a few years.” Gaby also surpassed the 1500 dig milestone during the 2020 high school season. She was one of the main reasons why Klein almost went undefeated for the entire season. The Rice University commit is such a hard worker and we are proud of her movement in our rankings. Her play during the high school season definitely showed everyone how good she is on the court. I have no doubt that she will continue to rise on this prestigious list.
Please congratulate these young ladies for their hard work being recognized. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes.
