Continue ReadingWe are proud of our second update to the 2023 Class. We have grown to almost 100 athletes and the following players have made some serious moves on the list. It is through their play during this past season that has helped us decide who should be where on the rankings. We always say that it is not an exact science, however proving it on the court in their position always helps solidify the analysis. We will be profiling players who were previously ranked in the state, but through great play, they made some serious moves up the rankings. Without further ado, here are a few players who moved up:
Madisyn Jones Madisyn Jones 5'9" | S Fredericksburg | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-8 Setter (HS: Boerne/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Madisyn moved up four positions and is now currently ranked as the 48th best prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is listed as the 9th best setter in the state. We wrote an article on her high school in October and here is a little from it, “As a setter, the ball comes off of her hands so smoothly in all locations along the net. She utilizes her Jump-set very effectively to keep the defense off-balance. She has great upper body control while setting which helps her location be extremely accurate. She plays club for a very impressive Alamo program who is nationally known and she runs that show as well. Last year as a Freshman, she earned District 28-4A Newcomer of the Year, Academic All-District, Prep Volleyball Frosh59-Honorable Mention, and Academic All-District. You will be hearing her name a lot in the coming years. We are happy to report that Madisyn just passed a great milestone in her young volleyball career as she surpassed the 1,200 career assist mark as just a sophomore. She has some incredible stats as she has 374 digs, 82 kills as a setter, and 70 aces. This kid is going to obliterate the record books at Boerne if she continues on this streak for the next two years.” We love when the players prove their rankings with their court play. Miss Jones definitely did that this season and that is a big reason why she moved up four spots in the State Rankings. She led Boerne to a great 19-5 overall record and a 6-2 district record. She was also recognized as a 4A TGCA All State team member. The club season just started and her Alamo team just won the 210 Classic Tournament. If she stays on the course that she is on, there is no doubt that she will continue to rise. Please congratulate her on the movement. We will be watching very closely this club season.
Alexandria Youngblood Alexandria Youngblood 5'9" | MB Kennedale | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-7 Middle (HS: Kennedale/Club: Texas Image/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Youngblood made a huge jump in the rankings and moved up 13 spots to now be ranked as the 50th top prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She was originally ranked as the 63rdplayer during our first ranking of this class. We originally wrote about her in October during our Future is Here series. Here is a little refresher on what we wrote, “This middle from the Dallas area is a sight to see. She is a lot smaller than her counterparts in the position, however she doesn’t play like it. Alex has an amazing vertical that allows her to attack and block against much bigger middles. One thing that truly stands out is her speed in the position. This is speed of footwork and also speed of arm swing. She excels at fast tempo sets out of the middle and its difficult for opposing middles to stay with her if they catch themselves watching the ball. The moment Alex gets a higher tempo set in the middle, she is able to out jump most that try to slow her down. If she doesn’t grow in the next couple of years I see her shifting to the outside where I still think she will blossom well and be able to play at the next level. We will also watch her progress closely as she has the natural athleticism that most college coaches will drool over.” This season she excelled at Kennedale and helped them to a 24-4 overall record and an undefeated district record. She had 97 kills out of the middle for them to go along with 46 total blocks. Add 99 digs to that stat sheet and you have one great all around player who can do it all on the court. Being only a sophomore makes it scary for opposing teams knowing that they have to play against her for a few more years. She will only get better as time progresses. Please congratulate her on the movement up the rankings.
Emily Keohen Emily Keohen 5'8" | S Richland Hills | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-6 Setter (HS: Richland Hills/Club: Texas Image/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Emily moved up four spots and is now the 61st ranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In a previous article we wrote the following about her, “Miss Keohen is a setter from the North Texas area who has excellent footwork for her age. It is so refreshing to see how well she moves on the court and tracks down all passes from her teammates so easily. She is able to get her hips squared around the ball so well in order to be as efficient as possible with her setting location to her hitters. Emily also has fantastic soft hands, which cradle the ball so well. The ball itself comes off her hands smoothly to each attacker no matter the tempo or location. It is extremely consistent for such a young setter. I think Miss Keohen has what it takes to move up our list over time if she keeps working at her craft. We like what we see for now and will be watching her progress closely.” Emily helped her Varsity team this year by accumulating 232 assists, 21 aces, and 116 digs. She also added 13 kills from the setting position. This year she was also named to the AVCA Phenom List. We are excited to watch her this club season now that it is underway. Please help us congratulate her on moving up the State Rankings.
