However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
It’s time we dive deep into the 1A Trico district and here are our picks:
Class of 2021
Tiffany Chandler Tiffany Chandler 5'10" | OH La Center | 2021 State WA – Outside Hitter/Right Sider – La Center
Tiffany Chandler Tiffany Chandler 5'10" | OH La Center | 2021 State WA didn’t shy away from the responsibility of leading La Center’s offense in 2019. The 5’9” hitter, who can play as an outside hitter or right sider, registered jaw-dropping 354 kills for the Wildcats last season, more than all of her teammates combined. She even had a 45-kill match in the team’s campaign. One of Chandler’s main assets when hitting is the ability to adjust to any kind of sets and that’s one of the reasons she had some remarkable accomplishments in 2019, including an All-State second-team selection and the nomination for the All-League Co-Offensive Player of the Year award. She ranks 20th at prepdig.com’s class of 2021 ranking.
Class of 2022
Brooke Wirkkala – Outside Hitter – Castle Rock
Brooke Wirkkala is the perfect prototype of what’s called a “volume outside hitter”. The 5’7” prospect certainly knows her way around the net, having converted nearly half of her kills in 2019, but she makes a great difference at the backcourt with her defensive skills. Wirkkala showed that very well last season, when she delivered 27 digs (third-best in the team) and 42 passes (second-best) to Castle Rock. The Rockets’ rising star an All-State team honorable mention nominee and an All-League first-team selection for that.
Class of 2023
Cameron Price – Middle-Blocker – Seton Catholic
Seton Catholic’s district campaign in 2019 was certainly below the team’s expectations as the Cougars lost all of their six matches and won only four sets. That was enough for then-freshman middle-blocker Cameron Price to show some value. The 5’11” prospect ended her first season of high school volleyball leaving a feeling of intrigue about what she will be able to do in the next few years, especially after she received an All-League team honorable mention.
