Liberos were all over the court, diving into curtains and saving balls that were seriously impressive. Here are some of the top liberos from the Class of 2022 at the PD Resolution Tournament:
Tayja Cornell – 1W Bay 18 Mizuno
Tayja is a junior playing on this talented 18’s team and she really shines. She is bold in defense, throwing herself in front of balls from even the best hitters. Tayja has no fear in the back row and makes digs that bring energy to her side of the court. She also is solid on serve receive and takes control of leadership in the back row.
Nora Raasch Nora Raasch 5'6" | DS/L Homestead | 2022 State WI – FC Elite 17 Navy
Nora has one of the best and most consistent platforms I saw this weekend. This makes her an excellent serve receiver. She holds her platform well. That combined with her speed makes her a dangerously accurate defender as well. Nora is not an athlete I have had the opportunity to see play before, but she is absolutely on my radar now.
Allyson Eckel – MVP 17 Blue
When I first walked over to see MVP 17 Blue play I say Allyson first dive close to the wall for an incredible save and then, the next play, dive into the bench. Allyson is fierce and gritty and a fun player to watch. She is very scrappy and will get a hand on everything that comes over the net. She is great in coverage and making even the toughest balls playable.
Lauren Wilharm – Impact 17 Blue
Lauren excels on serve receive and reading her opponents in defense. She has a lot of control and can read the serve early and accurately. One of her strengths is covering her hitters and picking up touches on the block. Both are very hard to do but she has a great read on the court which helps her succeed.
Lindsey Taylor Lindsey Taylor DS/L State WI – River City 17 Blue
Lindsey is the definition of scrappy. She is very fast and just knows the game well and the tendencies of hitters. This combination of skills means she picks up a lot of balls on defense. She is comfortable and confident on serve receive as well and is really the “whole package” for a libero.
These liberos had a real and positive impact on each of their teams this weekend. They were gritty and determined on the court and had a seemingly infinite amount of energy. Keep these Class of 2022 liberos on your radar!
