Nothing like a Saturday morning at Badger Region Power League. Energy high before the start of six matches over the course of the weekend with a chance of snow for your drive home. I was able to spend a few hours at the 16 Elite Division of Badger Region Power League at the Champion Center in Appleton. Plenty of new names and standouts to report for athletes in the Class of 2023 and 2024. The future is bright for volleyball in Wisconsin.
[caption id="attachment_117189" align="aligncenter" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="91936" first="Molly" last="Rohde"], 2023, MB.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_105313" align="aligncenter" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="91908" first="Monika" last="Stevens"], MH, 2023.[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="91936" first="Molly" last="Rohde"] and [player_tooltip player_id="91908" first="Monika" last="Stevens"] - FC Elite 16 White

Middle Blockers

Rohde and Stevens are quite a presence in the middle for FC Elite 16 White. Stevens has plenty of highlight like swings where she can thump it on the ten footline where Rohde is extremely athletic and dynamic where she rules the net defensively. FC Elite 16 White had quite a weekend and had quite a match with FC Elite 16 Navy, losing 18-16 in set three. This team has size and athleticism which will be a problem for their opponents as the season progresses.

[player_tooltip player_id="91904" first="Aubrey" last="Berlowski"] - [program_tooltip program_id='431537' first='Midwest' last='Penguins'] 16 Black

Outside Hitter

Berlowski was key to all the success of MWP 16 Black this weekend. A six rotation outside who can take a big swing on the outside, but also provides a solid first contact. She's dependable in serve receive, a floor captain and someone who is always dependable to score points or make the high IQ play. With a strong approach, explosive jump and strong arm she is one to watch the rest of this club season.

[player_tooltip player_id="82954" first="Myla" last="Glaser"] - [program_tooltip program_id='431537' first='Midwest' last='Penguins'] 16 Black

Middle Blocker

Glaser is quite a jumper, she has quick hops and is so strong out of the middle. She is one of those fast twitch middles who can get up fast and score points anywhere on the court. A definite mismatch for the other side of the net when MWP is in system. She connects well with setter [player_tooltip player_id="91897" first="Ava" last="Clinton-Ragonese"] who receives a solid first contact from her twin sister [player_tooltip player_id="91898" first="Olivia" last="Clinton-Ragonese"].
[caption id="attachment_101238" align="aligncenter" width="419"] Selburg[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="119417" first="Sydney" last="Selburg"] - [program_tooltip program_id='431479' first='Wisconsin' last='Juniors'] 16-1

Setter

Selburg is a flat out playmaker for [program_tooltip program_id='431479' first='Wisconsin' last='Juniors'] who went 4-1 in their pool. Not only does Selburg command the court as a setter, but she is a major point scorer from the service line as well. Very fundamentally sound, well trained, and savvy, Selburg sees the other side of the net well and knows where she can score points or find the matchups for her attackers to take full advantage.

Kayla DeBruin - 1W Bay 16 Mizuno

Libero

DeBruin is solid. As a libero for 1W, she has a great platform and provides a consistent first contact whether its from serve receive or taking pace off the ball. She reads the other side well and can anticipate to make the next play.

[player_tooltip player_id="91933" first="Isabella" last="Grace"] - Impact 16 National

Outside Hitter

I've seen Grace play since this fall and her improvement has been on the up and up as she is scoring points from the pin and is extremely dynamic. She has a fast swing and knows where to score points for her Impact 16 National squad who scored some big wins this weekend. With her athleticism, she has a high ceiling of potential. She will start her alternate fall season today as she will be a key player for Bay Port High School.

[player_tooltip player_id="91931" first="Kate" last="Henze"] - Impact 16 National

Middle Blocker

Henze definitely brings the power and is not afraid to take a big swing as she is a key point scorer for Impact 16 National. She had a solid high school season at Fox Valley Lutheran who will return plenty of firepower in 2021. Impact has a really consistent first contact from [player_tooltip player_id="91902" first="Myakel" last="Kapalko"] and is dangerous when they are able to run their offense in system.

[player_tooltip player_id="82921" first="Kaitlin" last="Schulz"] - FC Elite 16 Navy

Outside Hitter

Schulz is really starting to pick it up and has made huge improvements since the summer where she is playing with a lot of confidence. She can score on the left or rightside where she can really explode out of her approach and has a violent arm swing to score points. She will also start her high school season as part of the Kimberly program who has a really talented class of 2023's.

Abigail Alan - [program_tooltip program_id='431479' first='Wisconsin' last='Juniors'] 16-1

Lauren Shaw - [program_tooltip program_id='431479' first='Wisconsin' last='Juniors'] 16-1

The duo was extremely key for the success of Juniors this weekend. Alan and Shaw play on the outside and have big swings and are extremely fundamental when it comes to hit at various angles. Alan was a key player for Burlington's run to the state finals this past fall. Shaw has plenty of upside with her swing and has plenty of athleticism.
[caption id="attachment_117119" align="aligncenter" width="457"] [player_tooltip player_id="122532" first="Annalise" last="Patchett"], 2024, MH.[/caption]
[player_tooltip player_id="122532" first="Annalise" last="Patchett"] - FC Elite 15 Navy

Outside Hitter

Patchett plays on the pin for FC Elite 15 Navy where she has a fast arm and a high ceiling. She was key to scoring points for Elite where she can hit a variety of angles. This is a scrappy group as well as extremely balanced. Her high school teammate from Fox Valley Lutheran [player_tooltip player_id="122527" first="Emma" last="Nilson"] also provided some big swings out of the middle. This squad will have their first chance to grab a bid to nationals this weekend at the Badger Region Qualifier.
