Continue ReadingIt is our main goal at Prep Dig to help get as much exposure for every type of athlete that wants to play at the next level. We scour the volleyball landscape for players who have the skills to play college ball. We have written about these athletes early in the spring of last year and are here to update the vball world on their recent college commitments and their play during the high school season. Take a look at what these amazing athletes have accomplished.
Niah Tucker Niah Tucker 6'0" | MB Wylie | 2021 State TX [2021] 6-0 Middle (HS: Wylie/Club: Dallas Premier/ Verbal: Providence College)
Niah is currently ranked as the 93rd best prospect in the 2021 class according to our Prep Dig Rankings. We wrote an article on her early last spring and here is a little from it, “Tuck is so bouncy off of the floor in transition. She gets up very rapidly to attack the quick from her setter. She has a lot of length in her arms and seals the net rather effectively to solidify the block. She is uncommitted as of now and we think she can definitely play at the next level for a college. She hits the slide really well behind her setter as she is very quick in her approach. Her arms are fully extended on every attack which helps her score more efficiently. We are looking forward to watching her grow and hopefully she will have offers soon.” It turns out we weren’t wrong in our prognostication on her ability to play at the next level. She committed to Providence College and will join them next season. They must have been impressed with her stats from this school as we were. She had 163 kills this past season out of the middle for her Wylie high school program. She hit a high hitting percentage of .316 and had 79 blocks. She helped her varsity team have a fantastic overall record of 21-5 and a district record of 13-1. We know she will do the same for Providence and help them succeed on the court.
Sally North Sally North 6'2" | MB Wilson | 2021 State TX [2021] 6-2 Middle (HS: Wilson/Club: Dallas Premier/Verbal: University of Chicago)
Sally is currently ranked as the 66th best prospect in the 2021 class according to our Prep Dig Rankings. We wrote an article on her early last spring and here is a little from it, “Teaming with the above-mentioned Niah Tucker Niah Tucker 6'0" | MB Wylie | 2021 State TX at Dallas Premier Volleyball club, they make a force in the middle for any team to face. Miss North’s stock is rising in the direction of her last name fast. She has a cannon for an arm. She attacks the ball with ferocity. I would like to clock the ball coming off of her hand because it is hard to see in the air. That is how fast it is. She cuts the ball extremely well going toward the opposing setter in right back. It is such a great angle that scores at a good clip for her. Not sure why opposing middles don’t follow her movement without the ball because she should command a lot of attention from them. I think she could play at a pretty high level in college if given the chance. Take a look at her and you will see why.” She was one of the main reasons why her Woodrow Wilson high school team went 24-2 overall on the season and also an astounding 17-0 district. She has committed to playing volleyball at the University of Chicago. This young lady has been an accomplished volleyball player and also a scholar athlete. She is a three time All District volleyball player. She was named as a finalist for the Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship Award. She is ranked first in her class academically and is also a two time state solo and ensemble silver medalist for playing the flute.
Shavonne Respondek Shavonne Respondek 5'9" | OH Madison | 2021 State TX [2021] 5-9 Outside (HS: Madison/Club: SA Force/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Shavonne is currently ranked as the 76th best prospect in the 2021 class according to our Prep Dig Rankings. We wrote an article on her early last spring and here is a little from it, “Although she is a smaller outside hitter in height, you won’t notice by looking at her stats. She has done a good enough job to be playing in the TGCA All-Star game this year. Shavonne is a huge impact player that likes to swing for the fences. I haven’t seen a young lady swing this hard in a while. When she swings, everyone takes notice. You can hear the loudest boom like a shot out of a cannon. I almost feel bad for opposing defenders who actually get a touch on it. She will be looking to have a great senior season next year at Madison. College coaches at a small school would be getting a high scoring outside hitter if they choose to pick up Shavonne.” She has been a stellar player for Madison high school for her entire four year varsity career. She has impressive stats over those four years including 858 kills, a career hitting percentage of .229, 112 blocks, 128 aces, and 1065 digs. She was the main scorer while Madison went the deep into the UIL State Playoffs this past season. Due to her stellar play this season, she was named to the TGCA All Star team. She is still uncommitted but I hope college coaches will give her a look as she has one of the heaviest arm swings in the class. This young lady can flat out bang with the best of them in the State and deserves a look or two.
There are many more amazing players to watch out for in every class. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes. If you have anyone you think we should watch out for, please shoot me an email with some info at nov8vb@yahoo.com.
