However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
The Wesco District has 16 high schools from the 2A and 3A classes and here are the players we picked:
Class of 2021
MacKenzie Whyte MacKenzie Whyte 6'2" | OH Snohomish | 2021 State WA – Outside Hitter/Middle-Blocker – Snohomish
MacKenzie Whyte MacKenzie Whyte 6'2" | OH Snohomish | 2021 State WA is a force at the net for Snohomish, something that’s easy to tell because of her 6’2” frame. What not many realize, though, is that besides her size, what makes her game special is her versatility, which allows Whyte to perform at a really high level as either an outside hitter or a middle-blocker. Hitting is certainly her bread and butter, as the 240 kills she registered for the Panthers last season show, but she’s also a great all-around player, one capable of registering with 58 aces and 261 digs and being included in the All-League first team. She ranks eighth at prepdig.com’s class of 2021 ranking.
Class of 2022
Emily Mekelburg Emily Mekelburg 6'0" | OH Arlington | 2022 WA – Outside Hitter – Arlington
Emily Mekelburg Emily Mekelburg 6'0" | OH Arlington | 2022 WA is the face of Arlington’s volleyball team. The six-foot outside hitter played a prominent role in the team’s last year campaign, which culminated with a sixth-place finish at the State Championship. Mekelburg produced in bunches for the Eagles, especially on offense, where she had 228 kills, but she also added 87 aces, 117 digs and 172 passes to her name on her way to become an All-League first-team member and to receive an All-State team honorable mention. Mekelburg is part of prepdig.com’s class of 2022 watchlist.
Class of 2023
Aubrey Congdon – Setter – Meadowdale
Not many freshmen had the opportunity to showcase their games in such a competitive district in 2019, but Aubrey Congdon made the most of the chances she had with Meadowdale. The 5’5” setter appeared in 47 of the 59 sets the Mavericks played and posted some promising numbers, such as 118 assists, 87 digs and 19 aces.
