Here is a look at four players at Class 6A from the Class of 2023 who specialize in distributing the ball to their hard-hitting teammates.
Rylee Unruh Rylee Unruh 5'11" | S Free State | 2023 State KS , 5’11”, Free State– Unruh is a setter who benefits from being surrounded by talent. The Firebirds were loaded for bear in 2020 and will be again in 2021. She is a technically sound setter who keeps all of her teammates in the flow of a match. Unruh finished her sophomore season with 665 assists. She can also hit and has a mean serve. She had 52 aces in 2020.
Tori Creason Tori Creason 5'9" | S Shawnee Mission NW | 2023 State KS , 5’8”, Shawnee Mission Northwest – Creason finished amongst all assist leaders in Class 6A in 2020. The Cougar setter amassed 406 assists in her sophomore campaign. She will be an interesting prospect to watch evolve over the next two high school seasons.
Laney Finazzo, 5’11”, Olathe West – The Owls are a talented team and Finazzo made sure that talent got the ball in 2020. She racked up 332 assists during her sophomore season. She will look to improve on those numbers in 2021 and attempt to lead Olathe West to a state title.
Tori Gelles, 5’9”, Blue Valley – Gelles logged just 20 sets played at the varsity level in 2020, but she finished with 44 assists in those sets. She has a quick release and should see more playing time in 2021.
