This great state has a love for everything BIGGER! The players we have written about in this fan favorite series of articles profiles all of the players who are over six feet tall and can absolutely ball. The statement that “you can’t teach height” is completely true and every coach across the country is always looking for taller players. Being a short guy myself, I always wished and dreamt of being blessed with height, but then I woke up. Now having coached for over twenty two years, I know that being a taller volleyball player is not as easy as it may seem. So for these young ladies to be as athletic as they are is truly amazing. Here are some high school updates on a few players we have written about:

[player_tooltip player_id="87433" first="Jamison" last="Wheeler"] [2021] 6-1 Outside (HS: Lake Travis/Club: Austin Skyline/ Verbal: SMU)

Jamison is the 46th ranked prospect in the 2021 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We profiled her early last summer and here is a little from the article,“This long-legged six rotation outside hitter is a joy to watch on the pins. She take a very mean approach to the ball and then explodes with a strong arm swing to blast away at opponents. She has a nasty line shot on the left side. Just when you think she is going to swing cross-court, she is able to torque her upper body to paint the line with ease. This kind of deception will keep her as a scoring machine. It is no wonder that she is verbally committed to SMU. She is a very solid serve receive passer and can also excel at attacking from the back row. Her main weapon on the court has to be her ability to control her upper body so well during her attack. It is very refreshing to see. We will keep an eye on her as she goes into her senior year looking to build on what she already has accomplished.” Jamison has had a stellar three year varsity career at Lake Travis HS. She used her senior year to help lead her varsity squad to an extremely impressive 20-1 overall record and a district record of 14-0. They went deep into the UIL State Playoffs and she leaves some really big shoes to fill as she graduates and attends SMU next year. In her three years on varsity, Jams racked up 1116 kills, hit a very impressive .276 hitting percentage, 144 blocks, 87 aces, and also 841 digs. She will do a great job at SMU but for now we get to watch her during her 18s year in club for her great Austin Skyline program.

[player_tooltip player_id="87475" first="Bailey" last="Miller"] [2022] 6-2 Outside (HS: Boles/Club: Dallas Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)

Miss Miller comes in as the 10th ranked prospect in the 2022 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We wrote an article on her early last June and here is what we said, “She has been a starter on her varsity high school program since bursting out on the scene as a freshman two years ago. As a freshman that season she led her team in both blocks and kills. That is very impressive to do as a freshman. Since then she has been on a tear getting better on the court and in the classroom where she is also in the top 10 percent of her class. She is a lengthy outside hitter who is a part of the famed ten-foot club meaning she can approach touch ten feet high. This past season she earned second team all-state honors and was also the offensive player of the year for her school’s district. This young lady has a very bright future and many college scouts have taken notice already. She is definitely a college athlete in the making.” In only three years so far, she has managed to accumulate more stats than some players get in four years. She already has 1228 kills, and hits an astounding .501 hitting percentage. Yes you read that right. She has hit .501 for her three year career. In case most people don’t know how to calculate hitting percentage, you take the amount of kills and subtract the amount of errors. Then you take that number and divide it by the number of attempts. It is actually called hitting efficiency. a .300 hitting percentage is a great number. She has hit .501 for three years. Wow!. Oh yeah and she also has 216 blocks and 128 aces. Need I say more? This young lady is a legit playmaker and when all is said and done whe will be one of the best players to ever come out of Boles. We get to cover her for another year and a half.

[player_tooltip player_id="87513" first="Kylie" last="Nott"] [2022] 6-1 Outside (HS: Rockwall/Club: Dallas Premier/Verbal: Fairleigh Dickinson)

Kylie comes in as the 58th ranked prospect in the 2022 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We also covered her in the June article and here is what was said, “She has a solid frame that is built for the collegiate game. She will do well at the next level as her body will benefit from a great strength and conditioning program. Miss Nott is a true banger on the pins. She hits a very heavy ball. You can hear it from courts away. She attacks the ball at the true peak of her jump and contacts extremely high above the net. It will be very difficult for opponents to stop her because of that height she contacts at. Once you add power to that, you have a very deadly combination. She has a lethal line shot from both pins and she scores at a very high clip with it. I could watch her hit line over and over again and still be in amazement. She will only get better during her junior and senior seasons. She is also a very good swing blocking right side who times and presses so well to seal the net against her opponent. Take a look at this kid and you wont be disappointed. She is one to watch.” We are proud to announce that she has committed to Fairleigh Dickinson University to play volleyball. She helped her Rockwall squad to an 11-1 district record this year. In only two years on varsity she has accumulated 496 kills, hit a.242 hitting percentage, had 69 blocks, and 118 digs. She will get to showcase that cannon of an arm for another year and a half and we will gladly cover her until she attends Fairleigh Dickinson. We are excited to watch her growth as a volleyball player.

Be on the lookout for the rest of this series as we tap into more players who are blessed to be tall and play with such great skills. Stay tuned for more players in our next article. If you have any other players you think we should highlight, please email me at nov8vb@yahoo.com.
