Several players impressed among the 55 teams that appeared in the tournament and during this week we’ll take some time to highlight some of them. A handful of middle-blockers played prominent roles on their teams and here are some of them.
Teia Woodson – AVA 18 TX Attack – HS: Clear Springs – 2021
Teia Woodson was one of the most physical middles to play in the tournament. She isn’t absurdly tall at 5’11” but impressed with her speed and athleticism at the net. Woodson, who played high school volleyball for Clear Springs, was exceptionally good on offense, where she proved to be an explosive hitter who can score points in a lot of different ways, either hitting in front of the setter or behind her back. The next step of her career will happen at Hill College.
Megan Vorhis – Ignite 181 – HS: Canyon Lake – 2022
Megan Vorhis used the tournament really well to showcase her skills. The class of 2022 player stood out in a strong Ignite 181 team and did everything you’d expect from an elite middle-blocker. It’s no surprise she’s committed to play Division 1 volleyball at Houston Baptist University. The six-foot Vorhis is very strong and reliable offensively and she makes use of her great reach to score a lot of points at the net. She does everything right when it comes to blocking, from moving fast at the net to placing her hands at the right spot across the net. She had a really impressive moment at the start of the third set against AJV 18 Molten in which it seemed nothing could get past her at the net and helped her team on a six-point scoring run.
Genevieve Perry – AP 18 Adidas – HS: Westlake – 2021
The first thing that stands out about Genevieve Perry’s game is how big of a block she has. The 6’1” middle-blocker is able to get her elbows across the net and takes up a lot of space from opposing hitter every time she’s at the net. To make things better, she’s also fast and has a good reading of the game, meaning she’s never late when moving at the net. Perry, who played high school volleyball for Westlake and will join Tulane University at the collegiate level, is also capable of scoring a lot of points for her team, be it at the net with kills or from the service line with her tricky floater, which put AJV 18 Molten in trouble when the teams met last weekend.
Katelyn Mallet – HOU Stellar 18 Premier – HS: Deer Park – 2021
Katelyn Mallet’s consistency is what makes of her a special player. The HOU Stellar 18 Premier middle-blocker was super steady during the tournament and her efficiency rate on offense was outstanding. She dominated the net with her 5’11” frame and great lateral speed too, being an important piece for her team on both sides of the game. After a four-year high school career with Deer Park, Mallet is ready for the next stage of her journey which will happen at the collegiate level with Texas Wesleyan University.
Such a bittersweet moment and an awesome ending for these 6 seniors as they shared the court for one of the last times! So proud of all levels for getting the win against Pasadena tonight! pic.twitter.com/ayv7jHqbwX

Campbell Horn – AJV 18 Molten – HS: Wimberley – 2021
Campbell Horn did a great job in battling with taller middle-blockers over the weekend. The 5’10” prospect used all of her speed and intelligence at the net to overcome some tough blocks and help her team AJV 18 Molten. Horn, who can also play as an opposite or outside hitter, used her great timing and reading of the game to make an impact when blocking too. She was very efficient on offense, especially when operating on slide hits, and was set in pivotal moments of matches, responding well to the task each and every time it happened. She recently committed to Frank Philipps College.
