Continue ReadingIt is time for a little Setter love. In this article we will profile three setters who are turning heads every time the step on the court. There are many setters that we have written about and it is time to update everyone on what they have been up to. In this article, I am once again spreading myself around the state and not focusing only on one city. Instead, I chose to pick one setter from each grad class and highlight them. Check out the following players as they have turned my head. Hopefully they will turn yours also.
Clara Brower Clara Brower 5'9" | S The Woodlands | 2021 State TX [2021] 5-9 Setter (HS: The Woodlands/Club: Woodlands Revolution/ Verbal: Georgia)
Miss Brewer comes in ranked 24th overall on our Prep Dig Rankings for the 2021 class. We previously wrote about Miss Brower early last June and here is a little from the article, “Clara is a setter who has amazing upper body control whether in system or out of system. She is extremely fast on her feet and doesn’t waste extra steps getting to the ball. We as coaches call that negative footwork. She doesn’t have a lot of negative footwork when pursuing the pass. This is what keeps her balanced at the point of contact and helps her to be pinpoint accurate. She excels in jump-setting every attack along the net and is able to move the ball around quite nicely against the flow of the pass, which keeps the opponent off-balance. She is committed to Georgia and will do well for them as they play in the tough SEC conference. We expect great things from Clara in her senior season at volleyball powerhouse the Woodlands high school.” Miss Brower did not disappoint at all during her senior campaign. She was one of the main reasons why her Woodlands Varsity squad went 23-4 overall and 10-0 in district. Another stellar season allowed her to pad her stats even more than she already had. She has accumulated an amazing stat line of 4,243 assists, 181 aces, 451 kills, and 1252 digs over four wonderful years on varsity for a program who is always in the running for a State Title. She is a phenomenal player and will be very difficult to replace. She is now an early enrollee at Georgia and looking to help their collegiate team win an SEC title. We are proud to have covered her and have her on our State Rankings list.
Katherine Crosley Katherine Crosley 5'9" | S Bowie | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-9 Setter (HS: Bowie/Club: Austin Juniors/Verbal: Davidson)
Katherine is currently ranked as the 81st top prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We profiled her in June and said the following about her, “She is verbally committed to Davidson and will be a star for them. Since bursting onto the scene as a freshman on Varsity last year and earning Newcomer of the Year honors, she hasn’t stopped getting better. The Austin Juniors phenom setter has turned heads ever since. She is a silky smooth left-handed setter who also excels in the classroom and earned academic all district last year as well. She has the length in her extremities to be a 5-1 setter at the collegiate level. She has such soft hands that help the ball just float off of her hands so smoothly. She moves the ball all around the net with ease. It is very nice to see a young setter grow into her frame and become so elegant with her movements. Oh did I mention she can bang also. She was also named her district offensive MVP last year as well. This young lady just keeps getting better each year and I think she is going to be a super stud over the next few years.” This past season for Bowie, Katherine was named as a preseason setter of the year for numerous publications. She was also named to the AVCA Phenom list due to her play on the court. She is also leading her Austin Juniors team to a wonderful season as the have also qualified for the Tour of Texas and will be competing against the best that the state of Texas has to offer. We are excited to watch her continue to grow to get ready to play at Davidson in a few years.
Tanon Rosenthal Tanon Rosenthal 5'10" | S Westlake | 2023 State CA [2023] 5-10 Setter (HS: Austin/Club: Roots/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Tanon comes in ranked 60th overall on our Prep Dig Rankings for the 2023 class. In our previous article we stated the following, “Tannon is a star in the making. I will bet my entire salary that this young lady will be a Division 1 stud once it’s all said and done. She was only a freshman this past year, but this kid is going to be the real deal. She can hit, set, and has the frame at a young age to excel at the game at a very high level. I watch the ball come out of her hands as a setter and I see an absolute star. Her release on the backset is poetry in motion. Now let’s talk about her attacking. At such a young age, she is able to move the ball around and score in a variety of ways. For Roots, she hits out of both pins occasionally just to showcase her versatility. Her big hands allow her contact to control the ball so well. She has the power necessary to score many more points in the years to come.” This young lady had 173 assists, 56 digs, 13 aces, and 23 kills for her varsity squad this past season as a sophomore. She is also an accomplished beach player who competes on the Texas tour. She stepped up big to team up with upperclassmen and help Austin to a 17-4 overall record and an 11-3 district record. She will look to build on that and lead her varsity squad as a junior next season. In the meantime, her and her awesome Roots team have been on a tear during the start of the club season. We will have more updates on them soon.
There are many more amazing setters to be aware of. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes.
