Continue ReadingThe most important tournament of the year for the class of 2021 players is just in front of us as the 2021 USAV Girls 18s Junior National Championship is set to happen from April 23-25 in Columbus, Ohio, and as many as 280 teams from the entire country are expected to compete in the five divisions.
Texas will, of course, be represented in the event and we will take the time between now and the start of the tournament in Ohio to present the team what will carry the Lone Star State flag in Ohio, analyzing their campaigns in the club season so far and highlighting their most important players.
In our last preview of the 18 American division, we feature TX Legacy 18 Elite:
The team that will represent the traditional Texas Legacy Volleyball Club out of Tomball, in the northwest of Houston, is having a very positive season so far. With head coach Rachel Croley at the helm, TX Legacy 18 Elite has won 26 of their 37 matches this club season and also lifted the trophy at the FAST Warm Up in December and finished second at the Houston Force #2 in January.
Here are their key players:
Madison Blane – Middle-Blocker – HS: Lake Creek – 2021
A 6’2” middle-blocker, Madison Blane has been rock solid for TX Legacy 18 at the center of the net. Blane knows exactly how to make the most of her size and uses it very well on both sides of the game. On offense, she has a very high contact point and often hits the ball straight down, making it impossible for defenders to get to it. When blocking, she can move laterally really quick and that gives her just enough time to find good balance before going up and sticking her arms across the net to take up space from opposing hitters. She has committed to play at Liberty University at the collegiate level.
Faith Wilemon – Outside Hitter – HS: Klein Collins – 2021
Faith Wilemon has a heavy right arm and she uses it to make damage on opponents. The 5’10” outside hitter is very athletic and uses her physical tools very well on offense. Wilemon is very efficient in finding vulnerable areas in opposing blocks and her line hits are nearly unstoppable when the set is at the right spot. Her defensive game is just as solid to the point that she can also play as a defensive specialist and the combination of her strong offense and efficient defense has earned her the opportunity of playing at the collegiate level for the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
Alexis Cox – Right Sider – HS: Kingwood Park – 2021
Alexis ‘Lexi’ Cox plays a really strong game for TX Legacy 18 Elite at the right side of the net. The six-foot prospect can also play as a middle-blocker and she carries some of that ability to her game at the right side being a very proficient blocker. A very energetic player on the court, Cox has a very diversified offense as she has the power to hit the ball hard in any direction but also the wisdom to play smarter when power isn’t the best option.
