The Class of 2022 has been on a roll this season and does not look to stop, as we have some impressive athletes who are leading stat holders across the state. These athletes are definitely going to be ones to watch throughout the completion of their season, soon moving into their summer seasons with their club teams. Let’s take a look at this week’s state stat holders.
Mia Doorn- Illiana Christian High School
Doorn is definitely an athlete to watch during the rest of her season with her high school team. Doorn currently leads the state of Illinois in kills with 327 kills with 77 sets played for this high school season. Doorn is an impressive outside hitter, with impeccable athletic skills which brings attention to her when she performs. She is fast, attentive, and has an extremely powerful swing, supporting her ability to secure kills under her belt. Doorn has allocated 353 digs, sitting at 3rdin most digs for the state of Illinois. Doorn is a key component in leading her team to state and continues to strive for greatness on the court. Doorn is a stellar athlete that you are going to want to watch during the rest of her high school season.
Valerie Nutakor Valerie Nutakor RS St. Teresa | 2022 State IL – St. Teresa High School
Nutakor, Outside hitter from Decatur, Illinois, is a powerful athlete to keep eyes on during the rest of her season. Nutakor sits at the 3rd leading scorer in kills, currently with 197 kills with 38 sets played. Nutakor has an impressive overall career kill stat with 666 kills, with 217 sets played. Nutakor can read the floor and has a strong swing. Standing at 5’11’, Nutakor has is very quick on her feet and is not afraid to attack at the ball. She is a fundamentally skilled player and continues to master her craft when it comes to building herself into an elite player. Nutakor has excellent ball control and is a very competitive and defensive player and continues to have the light shine on her talents.
Lauren Harris- Woodlawn High School
Harris is another outstanding athlete who is going to be one to watch during the remainder of the spring season. Harris currently sits at #10 with digs for the state, with 147 digs. Harris is a multi-athlete whose athletic ability is outstanding. Harris is an efficient and consistent athlete, and her stats show that. Last season, Harris racked in 451 kills with 71 sets played with a kill percentage of 50.1. Harris is quick, alert and can read the floor well. Harris’ ability to communicate across the floor and move with the ball, tests her ability to be focused and aware of her surrounds. Harris is going to be an athlete to watch throughout the rest of her high school season and moving into her club season this summer.
Ali Sidwell- East Alton-Wood River High School
Standing at 5’4”, Sidwell has impressive movement when it comes to move across the floor and with the flow of the ball. With her height being at a disadvantage, Sidwell still makes do with her athletic ability and her improved defensive skills. Sidwell is ranked #6 in digs in Illinois with 251 digs with 44 sets played. In addition, Sidwell has 68 kills over the 44 sets played. Sidwell is a developing athlete with a excellent start and continues to make a name for herself. On the defensive end, Sidwell is a key component to the defense and wins for her team. Keep an eye out for Sidwell, as she continues to make her way up the top.
Kylie Martin- Illiana Christian High School
Martin is an overall impressive and stellar athlete. Martin stands at 5’11” and 160lbs and brings forth all of her athletic abilities when she steps on the court. Martin moves swiftly across the floor, effortlessly with the flow of the ball. Martin is the current leader in serving aces with 57 aces with 77 sets played. In addition, Martin is also the 3rd leader in assists, reeling in 333 assists and sits top 20 in digs with 249 digs for the state of Illinois. Martin is not afraid to get business done and she continues to make a name for herself. Martin is going to be one athlete to keep up with during the remainder of her spring season.
