Continue ReadingThe most important moment of the season is just around the corner for teams from the 15s, 16s and 17s age group from around the country as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 60 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
AJV 16 Molten
The second-best ranked team of the traditional Austin Juniors Volleyball Club in the age group, AJV 16 Molten will compete in the 16 Patriot Division. The team has had a positive season so far with 30 wins and 19 losses. The group led by head coach Jenny Warmack-Chipman was the winner of both the Tour of Texas Qualifier for the San Antonio-Austin area in January and the ATX Showcase in February.

Players to Watch
Evie Naumann – Outside Hitter – HS: Westlake – 2023
Evie Naumann has a solid all-around game that fits just perfectly with her role as an outside hitter. She’s a capable passer and is also effective on defense due to her superior positioning and her outstanding technique. Her offensive game is, however, her main asset as Naumann combines great size at 5’11” with a very impressive hitting technique which allows her to contact the ball at a very high point. She’s very quick on her approach and hit in every direction, even when at the back row.
Morgan Poulain – Middle Blocker – HS: Liberty Hill – 2023
Morgan Poulain’s game at the net is one of the main strengths of AJV 16 Molten heading to Las Vegas. A 6’2” middle blocker, she makes great use of her tremendous size to impact the game for her team. Poulain is very solid when it comes to blocking as she combines her length with some good movement at the net and superior reading of the game. She’s really difficult to block because of her tremendous reach and also has a heavy arm, making opposing defenders’ lives complicated.

Tori Welch – Setter – HS: Vista Ridge – 2023
AVJ 16 Molten plays really fast when Tori Welch is on the court. Her aggressive, up-tempo game offers the team a good alternative to the style of the other setter, Reagan Sawyer. The 5’7” Welch likes to use the middles and push the pin hitters with shoot sets that might be a little complicated to assimilate but put them in a great position to score. She’s also a superior defender and can be used as a defensive specialist if needed.
