As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 60 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
HOU Stellar 16 Premier
Part of the popular Houston Stellar Club, HOU Stellar 16 Premier will be one of Texas’ representatives in the 16 American division in Las Vegas. The team coached by Autumn Smith has had a nearly even season so far with 27 wins and 26 losses. The highlights of their 2021 campaign were hands downs their victory at the Tour of Texas Qualifier for the San Antonio-Austin area and their ninth-place finish at the Mizuno Cross Court Classic.

Players to Watch
Maddie Whitehead – Outside Hitter – HS: Pearland – 2023
Maddie Whitehead is a true two-way player as her contributions are equally important for HOU Stellar 16 Premier on offense and defense. When playing at the net, the 5’9” Whitehead is one of a few left-handed players to hit from the left, giving her unusual angles which are hard to anticipate. At the backcourt, she’s very technical and focused, generating tons of good passes and digs for her team.
Brittney Daphnis – Middle Blocker – HS: Clear Falls – 2023
Even though she isn’t the tallest middle blocker out there, Brittney Daphnis brings a lot of athleticism to the game for HOU Stellar 16 Premier. She’s 5’10” but has great physical tools which include an impressive leaping ability and outstanding footwork both on offense and defense. Her hanging time also helps her to find a way out when sets are not perfectly timed.
Alexandria Gilmer – Outside Hitter/Right Sider – HS: Barbers Hill – 2023
Alexandria Gilmer is a long and athletic outside hitter who plays a central role in HOU Stellar 16 Premier’s offense. Due to her superior firepower, the 5’11” Gilmer was often used as a right sider in 2021, a position in which she can make the most of her game at the net. She’s very consistent and steady, two important skills for someone with so relevant offensive responsibilities.
