Continue ReadingThe most important moment of the season is just around the corner for teams from the 15s, 16s and 17s age group from around the country as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 50 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
TAV Houston 15 Black
15 Black will represent the traditional TAV Houston club and the state of Texas in the 15 Patriot division. The team gets to Las Vegas in good form after having won 44 of their 60 matches so far in 2021. With head coach Bryan Bunn at the team, TAV Houston 15 Black has won the Tour of Texas Qualifier for San Antonio-Texas area, finished second at the Houston Power League and fifth at both the Sunshine Volleyball Classic and the Northeast Qualifier 2 in Philadelphia.

Players to Watch
Jaela Auguste Jaela Auguste 6'0" | MB Grand Oaks | 2024 State #17 Nation TX – Middle Blocker – HS: Grand Oaks – 2024
Jaela Auguste Jaela Auguste 6'0" | MB Grand Oaks | 2024 State #17 Nation TX ‘s physicality makes a lot of difference for TAV Houston 15 Black. She’s not only taller than virtually every player in her age group at 6’1”, but also way more athletic thanks to the work she does as a track and field student-athlete. Auguste has really good feet for the sport and a vertical that makes it easy for her to hit over the top of opposing blockers. There’s still a certainly level of rawness to her game that’s absolutely expected to players of her age, but her physicality is already next level. Auguste ranks 50th on our 2024 Prep Dig State Rankings.
Skylar Skrabanek – Outside Hitter – HS: Tompkins – 2024
Skylar Skrabanek is another player who brings a lot of firepower for TAV Houston 15 Black. A 6’1” outside hitter, she complements her physical tools with a great all-around game, which has been refined in beach volleyball practices – she’s one of the top beach players in the state. Skrabanek is a natural leader and excels on every skill, bringing a lot to the table for her team.
Jenna Chicherski – Setter – 2025
Jenna Chicherski is yet to enter high school, but she can already make an impact at this level. The 5’7” setter is wise beyond her years and only because of that she can play in such a pivotal position in a team with older players. Chicherski has a great touch on the ball, is smart with her distribution and is also extremely efficient with her serving and digging. She has all the tools to become an elite player in the future.
