Continue ReadingThe most important moment of the season is just around the corner for teams from the 15s, 16s and 17s age group from around the country as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 50 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
TAV Houston 16 Blue
A product of the traditional TAV volleyball club in the Houston area, TAV Houston 16 Blue will appear in the 16 Patriot division. With head coach Mallori Howington at the team, the team has played a lot of matches in 2021 and won most of them, securing a 46-18 win record so far. The team started the season in great form, with back-to-back second places at the TAV Houston Jingle Ball and the TAV Houston Classic #2 between December and January.

Players to Watch
Ariana Goode – Middle Blocker – HS: Klein Collins – 2023
An athletic middle blocker, Ariana Goode knows how to make her presence felt at the net. The 5’11” prospect has not only the size to make an impact on the game but also impressive leaping ability and very good timing to shut opponents down. Her offensive game is very efficient too as she combines power and reach with a strong ability to make good decisions and avoid mistakes. She can also play as a right sider.
Emmalynn Montes – Outside Hitter – HS: Kingwood – 2023
Emmalynn Montes’ offense is an important piece of TAV Houston 16 Blue’s playing system. At 5’11”, she’s very long and athletic and doesn’t hold anything back when the ball is sent her way at the net, often hitting over the top of opposing blockers. Montes is also very versatile offensively and can cause damage from the right and even from the middle too. On the defensive side of the game, her passing game leaves nothing to be desired.
McKynzie Wallace – Setter – HS: Kingwood Park – 2023
McKynzie Wallace was a new addition for Alamo this past season and she integrated really well into the team’s system splitting the setting duties with Grace Carney. Very strong technically, Wallace does a great job in tracking passes and putting her body at the best possible spot to set, which helps with her accuracy. She’s certainly not a liability at the net at 5’7” and is also a very capable server and a very good defender.
