Continue ReadingThe most important moment of the season is just around the corner for teams from the 15s, 16s and 17s age group from around the country as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 60 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
WACO VBC UA 17 Black
17 Black will represent the Waco Juniors Volleyball Club in the tournament and they will compete in the 17 American division. The group of players led by head coach Kamol Nohe has been in great form in 2021, having won 28 matches and lost only six so far. Their positive results led them to victories at the Adidas Lone Star Classic, the TSC Stop – Houston and the Roots #2 and a second-place finish at the Mizuno Cross Court Classic.

Players to Watch
Graycee Mosley – Outside Hitter – HS: Troy – 2022
Graycee Mosley is one of those players who produce in bunches for her team. Her stat line in three years of high school volleyball with Troy includes more than 1,200 kills, 600 digs and 100 aces and is a great example of it. Mosley is 5’9” but is extremely explosive, carrying all that power and aggressiveness to her offensive plays. She’s lethal at the pin but has also a very interesting ability to hit quick sets down the middle, either in front of or behind the setter. She’ll play at the collegiate level for East Texas Baptist.
Lauren Johnson – Middle Blocker – HS: Midway – 2022
Lauren Johnson brings an interesting physical presence for WACO VBC UA 17 Black at the net. The 5’11” middle blocker can play against anyone across the net and she uses her size and skills really well. Her offensive game is very powerful and she hits a set that’s a little higher than most other middles do to take full advantage of her reach and heavy arm. She’s very good at hitting in transition and makes herself available for her setter no matter what. She’ll remain in the Lone Star State during her collegiate career as she committed with the University of Texas at Dallas.
McKenzie Mansell – Setter – HS: Belton – 2022
WACO VBC UA 17 Black often has two setters on the court because they have a couple of great options for the position in Makayla Wiggins and McKenzie Mansell. The 5’7” Mansell is extremely talented and she has a great hand for the game. Her distribution is spot on and she also adds to the team with her defense. As with Mosley, she will also continue her career at the collegiate level with East Texas Baptist.
