Continue ReadingAs the Class of 2024 secures their first year in the books for their high school seasons, we take a look into some of Illinois’ Defensive Specialist and Libero group and their journey on the rise to being elite athletes. These athletes stood out in their class and group as they are starting to showcase their individual talents that caught my eye.
Delaney Molloy Delaney Molloy 5'6" | DS/L Belvidere | 2024 State IL – Mission Volleyball
Molloy is a quick and attentive defender who is going to be one to watch as she is just starting her high school career. Molloy has a solid foundation and structure when it comes her athletic abilities and responsibilities on the court. Molloy gets low and is quick to reflecting the ball into a live play, making sure that the ball does not land on her side of the court. Molloy has a impressive skill in having a strong right arm and has a power swing in the need of setting up a kill and being capable of being a back up hitter if needed. Molloy is going to be an athlete that you are going to want to keep your eyes on as she is only going to get stronger from here.
Alexis Byas Alexis Byas 5'1" | DS/L Lincoln Way East | 2024 IL – Ultimate Volleyball of Chicago
Byas is a very interesting player to watch and a very entertaining player to watch. Standing at 5’1″, Byas is overall a very advantaged player. Byas is fast and quick on her feet, which is important as a DS/L. Byas is not afraid to hit the floor, but one thing about Byas is she will hit the floor and get back up before a blink of the eye. She has good ball handling skills and works well with her team in keeping a live ball in play to increase the chances of gaining the kill. Byas moves with the ball and is very aggressive when the ball is in play. She positions herself to be in place when needed and makes sure that she can back up her team when they need the help. Byas has a solid foundation and is going to be on to get eyes on.
Mia Colton Mia Colton DS/L Libertyville | 2024 State IL – Sky High Volleyball
Colton is a player that can be found at the right place and at the right time. Colton stands at 5’7″ and is very attentive to her surroundings and in making sure she knows where the ball is at, at all times. Colton is the type of athlete that is not afraid to meet the floor when it comes to having to save and defend that ball. Colton flows well with the ball, but can use more fundamentals when it comes to sharpening her skills when it comes to being consistent with her bumps and control over the ball. Don’t get me wrong, Colton is a sharp athlete, but like every great athlete, she be an elite and star athlete with a bit more fundamental training.
Carolina Kasuboski Carolina Kasuboski 5'7" | DS/L Union Grove (WI) | 2024 WI – Sky High Volleyball
Kasuboski is an freshman that you are going to want to keep tabs on during the duration of her high school and club career. The 5’5″ DS/L is a very well developed athlete and has a exceptional foundation of athletic skill set for her current position. Kasuboksi is a very efficient and swift player when it comes to being able to read the floor and flow with the movement of the ball. Her mobility to get low to the ground puts her at the advantage of being able to reflect the ball back into play, after an attempted kill from her opponents. Kasuboski has a very strong right hand and is ver consistent with her serves and serving aces.
Hannah Langton– VC United
Standing at 5’5″, Langton is a well off developing player when it comes to her athletic ability on the court. Langton has an impressive skill set thus far with her ability to being able to read the floor and quickly engage herself as a freshman. Langton has had an impressive season so far with her high school, Genoa-Kingston High School, as she is a valuable player when it comes to be able to reflect the ball from an attempted attack. Langton is a developing player and is going to be a player to watch during her high school career. She is very defensive, competitive and an aggressive player when it comes to defending the ball. Langton is going to definitely going to be a progressing athlete to watch.
