As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 70 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
Flyers 16 APX-John
Flyers 16 APX-John will have the task of representing the Frisco Flyers Volleyball Club in the 16 American division in Las Vegas. With head coach John Haroun at the helm, the squad has achieved a respectable 35-19 win record so far in the season. Flyers 16 APX-John got fifth in the Adidas Windy City National Qualifier and had solid finishes in the Tour of Texas and the Adidas Lone Star Classic too, ranking 11th and 17th.
Players to Watch
Allison Kirkpatrick – Setter – HS: Bonham – 2023
Allison Kirkpatrick is a key piece in Flyers 16 APX-John’s playing system because of her great technique and superior volleyball IQ. A 5’10” setter, she runs the team’s offense masterfully, putting hitters in great positions to score and constantly making the right calls. She’s crafty and a threat to dump on two as well because of her size and self-confidence. Kirkpatrick can also hit from the right, giving her team an interesting tactical option.
Zenai Jethroe – Middle Blocker – HS: Ranchview – 2023
A six-foot middle blocker, Zenai Jethroe brings a lot of power and energy to Flyers 16 APX-John’s game. Her quick feet are a tremendous part of her game as they allow her to always be an option on offense and to move up and down the net with ease. Jethroe is an offensive force as she can hit a variety of sets in the middle or behind the setter and she absolutely hammers each of them down no matter what. She’s also a terrific blocker due to her ability to read the game and quickly place her hands across the net.
Sydney Rudeen – Outside Hitter – HS: Flower Mound – 2024
A 2024 outside hitter, Sydney Rudeen quickly established herself as an important piece for the team after coming from Attack Volleyball Club. She has a very well-rounded game and can impact several aspects of the match on either side of the ball. Her 5’10” frame certainly makes things easier for her at the net but she’s also got a large repertoire of hits and shots and has an interesting ability to hit after passing that’s not always seen on players of her age. She can score from the left, right and even from the back row.
