Continue ReadingThe most important moment of the season is just around the corner for teams from the 15s, 16s and 17s age group from around the country as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 70 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
H Skyline 17 Black
The traditional Houston Skyline Volleyball Club will have two teams competing in the 17 Open division in Las Vegas and one of them is 17 Black. The group of players led by head coach Kalani Rose has been doing well in the club season so far, accumulating a 34-20 win record. 17 Black started the season on fire winning the FAST Warm Up and sustained the good level with third-place finishes at the Adidas Lone Star Classic and the Houston Shoot Outs 1 and 2.

Players to Watch
Jordan Gamble Jordan Gamble 6'2" | MB Katy | 2022 State TX – Middle Blocker – HS: Katy – 2022
Jordan Gamble Jordan Gamble 6'2" | MB Katy | 2022 State TX checks all the boxes in regards to what one would expect from a middle blocker. Her 6’3” frame plays a big part in it, but she adds to it with a lot of talent and a high volleyball IQ. One thing that immediately stands out about Gamble’s game is that no overpasses or oversets get past her at the net. She’s so connected to the game and so active that minimal mistakes cost points to her opponents. She’s also really strong offensively, efficiently hitting a really quick set down the middle. She’s coming from a stellar high school season in which she registered 474 kills and 181 blocks for Katy and currently ranks 43rd on our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings.
Avery Shimaitis Avery Shimaitis 5'11" | OH George Ranch | 2022 State #142 Nation TX – Outside Hitter – HS: George Ranch – 2022
Avery Shimaitis Avery Shimaitis 5'11" | OH George Ranch | 2022 State #142 Nation TX is another player who brings a lot of power for W Skyline 17 Black’s offense. The 5’10” swings as hard as anyone from the left side and is an extremely reliable scoring option for her team. Shimaitis is very physical and her impressive leaping ability and her heavy right arm come in particularly handy when she hits in transition. Those skills didn’t get unnoticed as we included Shimaitis on our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings at the 55th spot while Pepperdine came calling and secured a commitment from her.
Lindsey Kriendler Lindsey Kriendler 6'1" | MB Cy Creek | 2022 State TX – Right Sider/Outside Hitter – HS: Cypress Creek – 2022
Lindsey Kriendler Lindsey Kriendler 6'1" | MB Cy Creek | 2022 State TX is one of those talents who can play any position. She’s mostly used at H Skyline 17 Black as a right sider, but can also play on the left or even in the middle. Wherever she is, she will deliver and that’s because of her tremendous ball control and offensive feeling for the game. Blockers rarely touch her hits because she’s so smart in where to place them. At 6’2”, she can just go over some of them as well. Kriendler has been a great asset for her high school team Cypress Creek, having registered 697 kills, 148 blocks and 120 aces over three seasons and she’ll continue to do the same at the collegiate level with New Hampshire. We have her at 73rd on our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings.
