Continue ReadingThe most important moment of the season is just around the corner for teams from the 15s, 16s and 17s age group from around the country as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 50 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
Katy United 15 Adidas
Representing the Katy United Volleyball Club from the Houston Area, 15 Adidas is one of the teams entered in the 15 Patriot division in Las Vegas. The team led by head coaches Kathryn Agson and Makenzie Jenkins has played in quite a few tournaments so far and has secured some good results, such as a third at the CTPL #3 and fifths at both the Mizuno Cross Court Classic and the FAST Warm Up. Katy United 15 Adidas has won 33 of their 58 matches this season.

Players to Watch
Amanda Brasen – Outside Hitter – HS: Cinco Ranch – 2024
The 5’10” Amanda Brasen is a very versatile player as she can play anywhere at the net. With Katy United 15 Adidas, she’s typically deployed as an outside hitter, a position in which she delivers great performances. Playing on the left opens up a lot of options for her on offense and allows her to use her great vision to score points. Brasen is very calm when making decisions and she has a good wrist that allows her to place the ball wherever she wants, two skills that make her score at an impressive high rate in out-of-system plays.
Leah Hoss – Setter – HS: Katy Taylor – 2024
Leah Hoss does a great job in coordinating Katy United 15 Adidas’ offense. The 5’7” setter has a lot of power on her arms and doesn’t have any issues with sending the ball to the furthest pin. Her setting style is built upon the accuracy and great location of her sets. Hoss is also a threat with her setter dumps. She registered 112 assists and 74 digs in her first season of high school volleyball with Katy Taylor.
Tena Fontenot – Outside Hitter – 2024
Tena Fontenot adds some power to Katy United 15 Adidas’ offense. The 5’8” outside hitter plays bigger than her size and can score from both the left and the right sides of the net. Fontenot’s approach is deceivingly slow but she unleashes a lot of power when she makes contact with the ball. Her long arms also help on her blocking, another strength of her game.
