Continue ReadingThe most important moment of the season is just around the corner for teams from the 15s, 16s and 17s age group from around the country as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 70 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
Skyline 17 Royal
Part of the storied Dallas Skyline Juniors Volleyball Club, 17 Royal will fight for the medals in 17 Open division. With head coach Kirk Perry at the helm, the squad has enjoyed a fair amount of success in the club season, heading to Las Vegas with a 40-13 win record. Skyline 17 Royal triumphed at the Tour of Texas, finished second at the Texas President’s Day Invitational and fifth at both the ASICS Show me Qualifier and the Red Rock Rave #1.

Players to Watch
Bailey Miller – Outside Hitter – HS: Boles – 2022
Bailey Miller is hands down one of the most lethal hitters in the state of Texas. A 6’2” outside hitter, she’s very difficult to stop and anyone watching high school volleyball already knows that thanks to the 1,228 kills and jaw-dropping .501 hitting efficiency (yes, you read it right!) she registered across the last three seasons with Boles. Miller is really tall and physical and has a lot of power coming out of her approach, which makes of her a threat to score anywhere at the net and even from the back row. She also had 435 digs, 352 passes, 216 blocks and 128 aces in her high school career so far. She’s a special talent and ranks tenth on our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings.
Lexi Guinn Lexi Guinn 6'0" | OH Frisco | 2022 State #52 Nation TX – Right Sider/Outside Hitter – HS: Frisco – 2022
Offensive power at the pins is certainly an area of strength for Skyline 17 Royal as Lexi Guinn Lexi Guinn 6'0" | OH Frisco | 2022 State #52 Nation TX makes for a solid duo with Miller. The six-footer can play an outside hitter too but has been mostly used by the team as a right sider, where her scoring punch is maximized even further. Guinn has a tremendous leaping ability and a variety of powerful shots she uses really well to put the ball on the floor. She has produced really well at the high school level too, registering 723 kills in three seasons for Frisco, and has committed to Texas A&M already. She also ranks 22nd on our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings.
Ava Camacho Ava Camacho 5'8" | DS/L Lovejoy | 2022 State TX – Libero/Defensive Specialist – HS: Lovejoy – 2022
A 5’8” defensive star, Ava Camacho Ava Camacho 5'8" | DS/L Lovejoy | 2022 State TX has won back-to-back State Championships with one of the most dominant high school teams in the entire country in Lovejoy. She’s an absolute stud on the backcourt and contributes just as much to Skyline 17 Royal’s success. Very technical and quick, Camacho also benefits from her superior positioning to be at the right place at the right time to make digs and establish herself as one of the best defensive players in the state in her age group. She ranks 30th on our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings (and third among liberos) and has committed to UT San Antonio.
