Continue ReadingThe most important moment of the season is just around the corner for teams from the 15s, 16s and 17s age group from around the country as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 70 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
TAV 15 Gold
TAV 15 Gold is coming from a great season, in which the team from the Texas Advantage Volleyball Club in the Dallas area won 42 and lost just eight matches. Set to appear in the 15 USA division in Las Vegas, the team won the Northeast Qualifier and had solid finishes at both the Adidas Lone Star Classic, with a third, and the Adidas Windy City National Qualifier, with a ninth.

Players to Watch
Jada Shepherd – Right Sider/Outside Hitter – HS: Horn – 2024
A 5’6” right sider, Jada Shepherd plays a lot bigger than her size due to her incredible athleticism. She’s a fantastic jumper and can get just as high as the tallest players in the age group on her offensive approach. Her combination of a heavy arm and a mobile wrist gives her to send the ball anywhere she wants and to do it with power too. Shepherd can hit from right, left and even the middle if needed, giving her team all the tools to run their offense as they want. She can pass when at the back row too, strengthening TAV 15 Gold’s defensive system.
Cheyenne Luper – Middle Blocker – HS: Fort Worth Christian – 2024
Cheyenne Luper’s physical tools are, at this point, the most exciting asset she has as a volleyball player. A 5’10” middle blocker, she is extremely physical and can already use of her athletic tools to impact the game. That should be more and more the case as she gets more training and experience and she, from a very young age, already checks all the boxes to be a dominant player down the middle for club and high school.
Luna Cobos – Setter – HS: Centennial – 2024
Luna Cobos came to TAV from another very strong program in the Dallas area, Madfrog. A 5’7” setter, she does a great job in running TAV Gold 15’s offense with a technical and intelligent game. One thing that stands out on Cobos is her confidence to send the ball to the farthest pin, something several setters in the age group don’t feel like they can do. Her body control is also really impressive as she can turn her body into any direction and set to another, which always keeps blockers guessing.
