Continue ReadingThe most important moment of the season is just around the corner for teams from the 15s, 16s and 17s age group from around the country as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 70 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
TAV 16 Blue
Set to represent the traditional and strong Texas Advantage Volleyball Club from the Dallas area, TAV 16 Blue will be a strong contender in the 16 USA division. The team lead by head coach Scott Sandel might be yet to lift a trophy in the 2021 club season but their consistency has been nothing short of remarkable. The squad has secured a 35-15 win record so far in the season and finished in the top ten in each event the team played, most notably with a third-place at the Northeast Qualifier, a fifth at the Adidas Lone Star Classic and a sixth at the Triple Crown West Coast Invitational.

Players to Watch
Emory Hinckley Emory Hinckley 6'2" | S Paschal | 2023 State TX – Setter – HS: Paschal – 2023
Emory Hinckley Emory Hinckley 6'2" | S Paschal | 2023 State TX is a one-of-a-kind type of setter as she has a rare combination of size, technique and volleyball IQ. She’s just a perfect fit for the position and her 6’2” frame makes things even more special as it makes of her a factor at the net and allows her to play super fast with her middles. Hinckley’s touch on the ball is great and it led her to register 690 assists in just two high school seasons with Paschal and also to rank 46th on our 2023 Prep Dig State Rankings.
Hannah Redrow – Middle Blocker – HS: Hebron – 2023
Hannah Redrow delivers exactly what one would expect from an elite middle blocker. Her 6’1” size, physicality and quick feet make of her a player who’s able to impact both sides of the game at the net. Redrow is a very efficient hitter and can hit a variety of sets. Her slide set hit is really difficult to stop due to her speed and ability to hit the ball hard. Her blocking game is even stronger as she’s a fantastic reader of the game and can react really quickly.
Kennesen Johnson – Outside Hitter – HS: Boyd – 2023
Kennesen Johnson is the glue that keeps TAV 16 Blue together as a team. Her all-around game is a great asset for the team and allows her teammates to bring the best out of them on the court. Johnson is extremely well-versed on defense and serve-receive, being also able to play as a defensive specialist if needed, but can also be an offensive force to the team. She’s not the tallest hitter out there but can jump out of the gym and hit the ball with a lot of power from a very high contact point.
