Continue ReadingThe most important moment of the season is just around the corner for teams from the 15s, 16s and 17s age group from around the country as the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from June 26-July 5.
As many as 728 teams are expected to compete in the 15 divisions for these three age groups and the state of Texas will, of course, be well-represented in the tournament with more than 70 teams expected to make the trip to Nevada.
During the next few weeks, we’ll use this space to present the Lone Star state representatives in the tournament, recapping their performances during the club season and highlighting some of their top prospects.
TAV Houston 17 Blue
One of two 17s teams from the popular TAV Houston club to qualify for the GJNC, 17 Blue will appear in the 17 Patriot division in Las Vegas. The group of players led by head coach Marissa Wixson has won 31 and lost 26 matches so far in the 2021 club season. Their best results so far were a fifth at the TCS Stop in Houston, a sixth at the Countdown City Classic and a seventh at the Mizuno Cross Court Classic.

Players to Watch
Elizabeth Davis – Middle Blocker – HS: Oak Ridge – 2022
A towering presence at the net for TAV 17 Blue, Elizabeth ‘Ellie’ Davis makes solid contributions to the team on both sides of the game. Her offensive is particularly impressive as besides being 6’1”, Davis also gets a lot of power from her approach and hits the ball hard whatever the set was. She’s difficult to stop at the net and creates a lot of problems for opposing hitters with her long arms and her ability to get off the ground quickly.
Kendall Sadler – Defensive Specialist/Libero – HS: Montgomery – 2022
A 5’7” defensive specialist, Kendall Sadler impacts the game in a big way for TAV Houston 17 Blue. She’s a phenomenal defender and an excellent passer and those are skills that are able to keep a team in any match. Her high school numbers for Montgomery, where she plays as a libero, are nothing short of impressive as Sadler registered 658 digs and 936 passes. She’s also a dangerous server, having scored directly from the service line 101 times over the last two seasons.
Sydney Louis – Setter – HS: Grand Oaks – 2023
It’s always challenging to have setters playing up a year because of the level of maturity and understanding of the game the position requires but Sydney Louis had no issues at all in playing with the 2022s. A 5’7” prospect, she’s got a great touch on the ball and quickly created good chemistry with her hitters. She can also play defense and has the ability to create damage from the service line with her tricky floater.
