Continue ReadingThis month I will be rolling out some articles that are a little different than we have been writing for the past couple of months. We will still be doing our regular highlight articles on multiple athletes for exposure, however I wanted to do some special articles on a few special athletes that we are getting to know quite well with Prep Dig TX. These young ladies volunteered to answer some questions so that we could get to know them a little bit more personally. The athletes were hand picked out of quite a few submissions that I received. My next installment is with Miss Bianca Byerly. She was picked because we wanted to hear the thoughts of a 2024 player who is not listed in our rankings….yet. She is a great setter/defensive specialist from the Houston area and we at Prep Dig TX wanted the volleyball world to take notice with a more personal account of who she is. Without further ado, here is our article on Miss Bianca Byerly.
Bianca Byerly [2024] 5-7 Defensive Specialist/Setter (HS: Cy Fair/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Bianca is currently unranked in the 2024 class but that could change once we update the rankings in a few months. She plays for Cy Fair High School and also for the highly touted Houston Skyline Volleyball club out of the Houston area. She primarily plays out of the right back position for Skyline this year but has all of the tools to play in left or middle back. She shows great range and length for a defensive player and covers a lot of ground because of it. We really love her soft touch on the ball as hard driven attacks seem to come off of her platform so smooth. This will help any team that she is on in the future. She is special because she is also a setter for her school team. We are excited to cover her and think she has a bright future. We will be watching very closely this coming school season at Cy Fair to see her progress. All of the defensive experience she s receiving during this club season should translate very well to her high school team this fall. Stay tuned for more updates on her.
We have profiled all of the other grad classes so far in this series and now we will turn our attention to a young defensive specialist/setter from the class of 2024 player to get her take on things. We were able to ask Bianca some personal questions so that our readers could get to know her a little better and here is a little from the conversation:
Prep Dig TX: What hobbies and interests other than volleyball do you have?
Bianca: I’ve always been interested in science and how the human body works. I want to pursue a career in the medical field. I also like to hang out with my little brother, sometimes!
Prep Dig TX: What is the most played song/artist on your playlist?
Bianca: It’s probably Rihanna, she gives me the strong girl vibe that gets me pumped up before practice or a tourney.
Prep Dig TX: Tell me why you started playing volleyball.
Bianca: A friend invited me to a volleyball camp in 6th grade and I fell in love with it and have played ever since!
Prep Dig TX: What keeps you motivated to get better at your craft at this point in your volleyball career?
Bianca: I stay motivated, disciplined and work hard because I want to compete now, in college and eventually in the Olympics.
Prep Dig TX: What do you love about the primary position you play?
Bianca: I play L/DS at club for Houston Skyline and Setter at school for Cy Fair HS. I love playing as a L/DS because digging is so fun! I also love playing as a Setter because it allows me to utilize my speed and challenges my volleyball IQ.
Prep Dig TX: Name an influential coach that you have had and why they were influential to you.
Bianca: One of my first coaches was Coach Tony. He was also a L/DS back in his day. He taught me what a platform was! He was passionate and had high expectations even if we were not in the gold bracket. He expected 100% effort, 100% of the time. He recently unexpectedly past away, Rest Easy Coach Tony!
Prep Dig TX: Name an influential player that you have played with and why they were influential to you.
Bianca: My current teammate and my volleyball sister, Tya. She is always positive and uplifting even though we should be the ones uplifting her up as she recently lost her mom to COVID. She may not realize this, but she has taught me how to be a better person on and off the court.
Prep Dig TX: What is the one thing you want to work on the most to be better at in your position?
Bianca: I’m currently working on being more aggressive with my serves and expecting that ace!
Getting to know Bianca and what drives her has been intriguing. We are so sad for her loss of a good friend’s mom and for her former coach Tony. I also knew Tony from way back in the day coaching volleyball camps with him in the Willowbrook area at Debbie Sokol camps when he was much younger. He always had a smile on his face and was super positive. He will be missed but his legacy will live on in players like Bianca who will always remember him for what he taught her. This just goes to show you how important volleyball is to every one of our readers. The sport brings people together and stays within your heart for years. Thank you for reading this article and indulging us on remembering a fine young coach. Tony Avillanoza may you rest in heaven sir!
Bianca will be watched very closely by us for USA Nationals and also while playing this season at Cy Fair. She is a very athletic and smooth player that has a lot of skills in two very difficult positions. We think she has a very high ceiling in the sport. Stay tuned to see where she falls on the rankings once we update them soon as well.
Again, I decided to write a few articles on players such as her so that our readers can get a true understanding of what these athletes go through and how volleyball is a passion for them like it is for many of us. These players deserve all of the recognition that they can get. I will be rolling these out throughout the month along with our regular highlight articles that contain multiple athletes.
We will be publishing more articles daily to give the recognition to each athlete that has earned the right to be called a top 100 Texas Volleyball Player. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes. If you have anyone you think we should watch out for or that you think have what it takes to be added to our database, please shoot me an email with some info at nov8vb@yahoo.com. Lastly, Thank you to everyone for all of the shout-outs on social media, tags, emails, direct messages, and most importantly…thank you for continuing to read out publication and support us as we strive to bring attention to the wonderful and amazing players of this great big state of ours! Volley on!
