Continue ReadingThis month I will be rolling out some articles that are a little different than we have been writing for the past couple of months. We will still be doing our regular highlight articles on multiple athletes for exposure, however I wanted to do some special articles on a few special athletes that we are getting to know quite well with Prep Dig TX. These young ladies volunteered to answer some questions so that we could get to know them a little bit more personally. The athletes were hand picked out of quite a few submissions that I received. My next installment is with Miss Macy McPartland Macy McPartland 5'5" | DS/L Rosehill Christian | 2024 State TX . She was picked because we wanted to hear the thoughts of a 2024 player who is just starting her journey at a high level in her high school years. She is a super stud libero from the Houston area and we at Prep Dig TX wanted the volleyball world to take notice with a more personal account of who she is. Without further ado, here is our article on Miss Macy McPartland Macy McPartland 5'5" | DS/L Rosehill Christian | 2024 State TX .
Macy McPartland Macy McPartland 5'5" | DS/L Rosehill Christian | 2024 State TX [2024] 5-5 Libero (HS: Bridgeland/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Please welcome Macy to the 2024 Prep Dig State Rankings. We have her listed as the 19th best overall prospect and also the 2nd best libero in the 2024 class. Macy plays for Bridgeland High School and also for the highly touted Houston Skyline Volleyball club out of the Houston area. We just profiled her in early may as we introduced her as a newly added state ranked player and here is a little from the article, “She is a very talented libero who is dominating with her club team this season. There are those defensive specialist/liberos who excel at serve receive and those that excel at digging. Macy is a special one that can do it all. What stands out immediately to the casual observer is her relentless pursuit of the ball. You see it in other sports like football when you have a linebacker or defensive lineman who just always seems to have a “nose for the ball” meaning they are always around the tackle to end the play. Miss McPartland is the same way as she is always around the ball whether in serve receive, defense, or hitter coverage. This showcases her great court vision and amazing footwork that work perfectly together to put her in a great position to play the game that we all played when we were little…”don’t let the balloon touch the floor”. She routinely comes out of nowhere to use an emergency technique to keep the ball in play and give her team a much needed boost to stay in the rally. She is so much fun to watch. We think coaches should keep an eye on this one as we think she is special and definitely has a future in the sport. We want to welcome her with open arms to our State Ranking List and can’t wait to watch her progress in the future.”
We have profiled all of the other grad classes so far in this series and now we will turn our attention to a young class of 2024 player to get her take on things. We were able to ask Macy some personal questions so that our readers could get to know her a little better and here is a little from the conversation:
Prep Dig TX: What hobbies and interests other than volleyball do you have?
Macy: I enjoy spending time with my family, going out to eat, hanging with friends, and vacations.
Prep Dig TX: What is the most played song/artist on your playlist?
Macy: Most wouldn’t believe this…but it is “Something to Believe In” by Poison. Either that or “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield. Really!
Prep Dig TX: Tell me why you started playing volleyball.
Macy: I started playing in our local youth league in 2nd grade, and I have been in love with the game ever since. While in elementary school I played in every league I could until eventually starting club at age 10. I pretty much have spent most of my time with a volleyball in my hands since first stepping on the court. I love the game. I love competing.
Prep Dig TX: What keeps you motivated to get better at your craft at this point in your volleyball career?
Macy: I think my love for playing and wanting to win keeps me motivated. I really don’t need much motivation because I just want to be out there. I guess I want the challenge to be better, for me to be better, and for our team to be our best.
Prep Dig TX: What do you love about the primary position you play?
Macy: I am obviously not one of the big hitters, so as a libero I love the hustle, dives and effort that keeps the ball in play. I love that feeling and sound when a hitter on the other team hammers the ball and I keep the ball up or in play. I just want to win and I think that the libero position often shows the heart and determination of a player that doesn’t have the size or height of the hitters. We have to be skilled, but our will to win is always on display.
Prep Dig TX: Name an influential coach that you have had and why they were influential to you.
Macy: Can I say two? Brittnee Dawley and Amy Burk. Since I first started playing club ball, Brittnee has always been one of my biggest cheerleaders and influences. She coached my team 3 times and has taught me so much about the game. She helped me fall in love with volleyball. Brittnee is the reason that I wanted to become a Libero, and she was the first coach to put me in the position. Coach Amy has really helped me this year with the technical part of the game. Her knowledge of the game and playing the position have really helped me to better understand the specifics of how and why in in both practice and game situations. I love her enthusiasm and conversations about the game, as well as her ability to explain situations and help me understand the game on a whole different level.
Prep Dig TX: Name an influential player that you have played with and why they were influential to you.
Macy: Again, there would have to be two. I think I would have to say Avery Owens first. She is also a Libero/DS at Houston Skyline on 15 Black. Like me, she’s not the biggest player out there, but she is determined to always do her best and compete with anyone. I love that she also shows that heart and effort also can make up for size, and she is always a key player for her team. At my high school, Bridgeland, I would have to say Alice Volpe Alice Volpe 5'5" | DS/L Bridgeland | 2024 State #83 Nation TX . We also play the same position, but have a friendly competition that I think helps both of us be better. She also loves the game and I love our conversations. I love watching her play and also playing with her. I also love that we can be competitors at school and when our club teams play, but always stay friends in between.
Prep Dig TX: What is the one thing you want to work on the most to be better at in your position?
Macy: I want to continue to learn more about the game itself and get more knowledge every day. I enjoy learning about the processes that make me better, and that make our team better. I want to expand my understanding of all aspects of the game.
I hope all of our readers take note of the way this young lady loves the game. It shows in each one of her answers. There is a pure love of the game in everything about her and we, at Prep Dig, love it! I have spent a lot of time analyzing her play and she is a special player. All college coaches would be glad to have a player who is as competitive as she is whether it is in a practice or a tight match. We are going to be following her very closely over the course of her junior career and you should also. It is safe to say that we have a “lifer” on our hands. She will be forever attached to volleyball and it is in great hands with this young lady. I identify with that and I know a lot of our readers do also. Watching this kid play and then truly reading her answers should make everyone smile. Stay tuned for more on Macy as we follow her progress!
Again, I decided to write a few articles on players such as her so that our readers can get a true understanding of what these athletes go through and how volleyball is a passion for them like it is for many of us. These players deserve all of the recognition that they can get. I will be rolling these out throughout the month along with our regular highlight articles that contain multiple athletes.
We will be publishing more articles daily to give the recognition to each athlete that has earned the right to be called a top 100 Texas Volleyball Player. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes. If you have anyone you think we should watch out for or that you think have what it takes to be added to our database, please shoot me an email with some info at nov8vb@yahoo.com. Lastly, Thank you to everyone for all of the shout-outs on social media, tags, emails, direct messages, and most importantly…thank you for continuing to read out publication and support us as we strive to bring attention to the wonderful and amazing players of this great big state of ours! Volley on!
