2020 SEASON RECORD: Conference record 9-1, overall record 32-3. Glenwood’s season ended in a Class 4A State Quarterfinal match against West Delaware that they fought like crazy not to lose. They lost the first set 25-17, won the second set 26-24, won the third set 25-20, lost the fourth 25-22, and lost the fifth set by the skin of their teeth,16-14. West Delaware probably does not know this, or maybe they do, but I think they got lucky that they pulled off that win.

[player_tooltip player_id="93047" first="Kelly" last="Embray"] (L)

Embray played in all 90 sets for the Rams last fall and had 50 assists, 8 kills, 4.8 DPS(435), and 26 service aces with an 89.0% serve efficiency. She will be tough to replace and the Rams will feel her absence for sure.

Grace Boles (S)

Boles played in all 90 sets for the Rams last season and contributed 9.6 APS(867), 61 kills, 23 total blocks, 1.7 DPS(157), and second-high for her team 31 service aces with a 92.8% serve efficiency. Talk about tough to replace...Boles left a hole that might cause a scramble for the Rams to try to fill this fall.

[caption id="attachment_101328" align="alignright" width="150"] Glenwood at the state tournament, #23 in center of shot, is [player_tooltip player_id="41305" first="Elle" last="Scarborough"].[/caption]

[player_tooltip player_id="41305" first="Elle" last="Scarborough"] (OH)

One of my favorite players to watch, Scarborough will be missed by the Rams as well in the coming season. She contributed 4.7 KPS(424!) with a .377 efficiency, 34 total blocks, 2.7 DPS(243), and 25 service aces with a 90.0% serve efficiency. When I was talking about West Delaware getting lucky in that 5 set match they won, I was thinking of Scarborough and the fact that these are the numbers she puts up while injured. Luckily she knew to rest up and will be full strength when she arrives at St. Cloud State this fall.

RETURNING PLAYERS:

Kennedy Jones (2022, MH)

Jones played in all 90 sets for the Rams last year and had 3 assists, 86 kills, 47 total blocks, 71 digs, and 25 service aces with a 94.1% serve efficiency.

Abby Hughes (2022, RS)

Hughes played in 89 of 90 sets for the Rams last season and contributed 4 assists, 1.1 KPS, 24 total blocks, and 27 digs.

Coryl Matheny (2022, OH)

Matheny is versatile and played in every set for the Rams in 2020. She had 3 assists, 1.9 KPS(169), 27 total blocks, 2.7 DPS(243), and a team-high 34 service aces with a 95.1% serve efficiency. She will be playing in every set this season too, I bet.

[caption id="attachment_149283" align="alignright" width="150"] [player_tooltip player_id="79240" first="Brynlee" last="Arnold"], Summer League, Glenwood v Red Oak., June 2021.[/caption]

[player_tooltip player_id="79240" first="Brynlee" last="Arnold"] (2022, MH)

Arnold is a delight to watch on the court. At 6’3", she is a great player who could make an impact all over the court for the Rams. In her junior season, she had 2 assists, 2.4 KPS(219) with .344 efficiency, a team-high 76 total blocks, and 16 digs. With those kills and that efficiency, I could see making her an outside this season to try to fill the space that Scarborough used to inhabit.

Delaney Holeton (2023, DS)

Holeton played in all 90 sets for the Rams last season and contributed 1 assist, 2.2 DPS(195), and 13 service aces with a 95.8% efficiency. I could see her sliding into the libero role for her junior season to help fill the space left by Boles.

Danika Arnold (2024, RS), Halle Lincoln (2023, DS), Kamryn Crouch (2022, RS), Tarah Jackson (2022, DS), Lauren Roenfeldt (2022, S), and Alissa Brummer (2022, MH) will also be returning players for the Rams this season. Even though Roenfeldt had only played in 17 sets last season, she is the only other listed setter on this roster so maybe we will see much more of her in her senior season. I also have a suspicion that [player_tooltip player_id="79240" first="Brynlee" last="Arnold"] could be an awesome outside, which they need to replace the irreplaceable [player_tooltip player_id="41305" first="Elle" last="Scarborough"], so maybe Brummer will get some starting action her senior season as well. The Rams also have a new coach this season with Underwood’s head coach, Paula Carman, taking over this season. I believe Glenwood will be as good as ever this season but with more hitters getting higher numbers since losing a great outside due to graduation.
