Continue ReadingThe JV Sizzle was a FULL day of volleyball at the Community First Champion Center. Twenty-three teams from across the state showed up in full force to play in this JV tournament, one of the first high school volleyball events of the summer. For many, the club season ended only a few weeks ago, but the high school pre-season is in full swing.
Here are five observations from the JV Sizzle!
1. Serve and Serve Receive Rule All
Every coach and athlete knows that winning the serve and serve receive game wins matches, and that was absolutely the case at the Sizzle. The teams with the most success, including Howards Grover, Luxemburg Casco, Cedarburg, and Pewaukee, served aggressively and were strong on serve receive.
2. The Competition Was HOT
Pun intended. Every time I moved from court to court I was impressed with something new. The rallies were long and the competition fierce. Several teams went up against conference opponents and got a first glimpse of what the season may have to offer. Other teams played schools they never have the opportunity to face in the regular season and made the most of the vast geographical area the teams from this tournament cover.

3. The Fun and Intensity was Infectious
These teams kept me energized throughout the day. From the first match to the last, there was intensity and fun on the court. Teams were cheering, joking, and encouraging each other all while playing at a competitive level! The fresh energy and excitement of playing high school volleyball were definitely felt all throughout the gym today.
4. The Talent Level in the Younger Classes is Impressive
Many teams had freshmen playing at their JV level. And the remaining athletes were primarily sophomores. Based on the talent level in these younger classes, the programs with teams here have A LOT to look forward to in the next few years.

5. It will be a great fall season!
If today was any indication, there is a lot to look forward to this fall. For many of these teams, they had shortened seasons, played in the spring, or didn’t have a season at all in the fall of 2020 and early 2021. Coming off of a very chaotic and discombobulated year, this fall season is set to be one of tough competition, huge learning, and a lot of fun for these young athletes!
