Holmen
Coming out the La Crosse area, Holmen brought two teams (Maroon and White) who both found themselves competing for division titles Thursday morning. The Holmen White squad defeated Seymour out of the Bay Conference (Green Bay and Appleton Area Teams), cross river foe Caledonia (MN) before losing to Edgerton in the final of the Kelsey Robinson bracket.
The Maroon squad had plenty of dramatics to start the morning with a three set win over Cedarburg and an upstart Pewaukee team who will be one to watch in the SE Wisconsin sectional for D2. The finals were all Holmen as they defeated Chippewa Falls. Balance was the name of the game for this squad as well as relentless defense. Ellie Kline Ellie Kline 5'4" | DS/L Holmen | 2022 State WI will be one of the top Liberos in Western Wisconsin and will be a solid pick up at the next level as a Class or 2022 Libero. Mara Schmidt Mara Schmidt 5'11" | OH Holmen | 2022 State WI is a 2022 outside hitter who is also a top beach player in the state. Solid contact and consistent all around player. Middle blocker Harley Bartels Harley Bartels MB Holmen | 2022 State WI was extremely explosive providing an offensive spark and was a force blocking.
Holmen will be in the D1 sectional with the Madison area schools which had been dominated by Sun Prairie the last five years (with Waunakee sneaking a state appearance in there). Based on this past week, Holmen could be a major contender to get to the Resch come late October, early November.
Another Western Wisconsin team who will be ones to watch this year is @ChippewaFallsSD – really athletic outside in Samantha Perlberg and a quick tempo, athletic team #PDSizzle pic.twitter.com/NwJSrAqE3C

Chippewa Falls
The Cardinals showed plenty of athleticism in Appleton with a strong day one showing in their pool against Pulaski, Caledonia (MN), and Middleton. They would be one of the top teams in the Haleigh Washington bracket for Day 2 and they lived up to all expectations with wins over Northeast Conference opponents Oconto Falls and Freedom before being defeated by Holmen Maroon in the finals.
Outside hitter Samantha Perlberg was one of the top all around players in the 50 team field at the Sizzle. She has length, the IQ, the backcourt game, and an x-factor about her where she finds a way to score points and make plenty of positive things happen on her side of the net. Another two attackers to know from Chippewa Falls are Madison Hunt Madison Hunt 5'8" | MB Chippewa Falls | 2024 State WI and Sophie Larson. These two are able to score points from anywhere in the front row. Hunt is a left handed middle blocker which teams are not accustomed to seeing. She is a huge leaper and can find plenty of spots on the court.
The Cardinals will be in the Northwest Section in D1 which has been dominated by their conference rival, River Falls. RF has qualified for the state tournament the past five seasons. They will play at River Falls to close out the conference season on October 14 and could potentially see the Wildcats in other tournaments and the postseason.
